1997 E-420 Suspension

I have 1997 E-420 with 138000 miles.

I am feeling more bumps while driving on streets. I think my suspension is getting old.

What you do to make it smooth like it used to be?

Do I need to put new shocks in front and back? I want to keep my car stock.

I just want my suspension to be normal like it used to be so I don’t feel every bump from street.

Any feed back and suggestion will be appreciated.

Myself also have the 97 E420, I install lower spring and Billstein shocks. If you like the stock ride, just replace all 4 shocks with OEM new one and your E420 will drive like new again !! you can buy the shocks online here:

http://www.mbpartswarehouse.com/part...668+11921+9242

It will cost you about $600-$800 installed depends on the labor local shop charge you !!

Thanks for information. I will go with Stock shocks. About $300 for 4 of them. My local shop will charge me $100 to install all 4.

Total $400 will bring my ride back to soft and original.

Ah yes! But there is more. (I'm surprised ohlord hasnt been here for this subject yet. ) Anyway, you also have a few other suspension items to check. Check your front swaybar bushings, lower ball joints, and the inner and outer tie rod ends. I know. Sounds expensive. But if your local shop will put 4 shocks on for $25.00 each he'll cut you a good deal on these items too. They arent hard at all for a pro and if done at the same time as the shocks you shouldnt be hurt to bad on labor. BUT take it to your local MB dealership to get it aligned. They do the best job.

Trust me. You'll feel a more improved ride if you do these things too.

Do not use monroes or

kyb ,go to autohausaz.com and get oe shocks,138k miles all suspension bushings ball joints per above and a good alignment if you get to n.Ca you can find the Big les schwab store and they have the most modern hunter machine in use.Even better than the dealers. They also do lowering kits eibach or h/r and install camber kits if required.
138k miles it is time to get the trans fluid and filter changed(past time)
I have the special dipstick and tips on where to get the other supplies if you diy

Ohlord, thanks for your feed back. Yes I am getting OEM replacement shock. I just want ride to go smooth, not too much fan of lowering the car or putting sport shocks.

Right now I will just change the shocks. The Ball joint looks good, I don't see any play in them.

Do you know where are suspension bushings are? I check the parts catalog, but don't find bushings. Please check my car photos and let me know where is bushings???

My car now worth $4500. I don't want to spend $1000 to update the suspension. I just want to put all 4 shocks that I can do with part and material for $400.

I don't know what going on with MB W210 pricing, it is going down so fast. Lots of people in my community now driving W210 E-Class and W220 S-Class.

W210's are now way below $10,000 and W220 are way below $20,000.
