Dealer wants $480 for a trans oil change
I am currently sitting in the waiting room of Lober Mercedes in Lincolnwood, IL. I come here to get my oil changed periodically because they do a good job and the price is reasonable. I am currently in need of a trans oil/filter change and asked the service advisor how much it costs. He told me $480. I asked him, "are you sure?" He told me that was the correct price. I'm going to pass on that offer and go to my indy mechanic. Ridiculous.

Yes it was an indy shop. He said at first it would be about $300 but mine took less fluid because there is no plug on the torque converter. I was shocked when I came time to pay. The place was called German Auto Works.

$240
for a partial change?did he at least change the filter or just the less than half of the fluid that comes out of the pan and leave the rest of the old stuff in the torque converted?

268 out the door at a dealer
9 units fluid at dealer price $160,filter 20,gasket 5,plg 4,cap 4..200 bucks parts.
they charged 68 labor,i seriously doubt that for that price they did a complete service and did not dain the torque converter which your 99 has if built before sept of that year.

My dealer did a partial change for $237 + tax that included 4 liters ATF, filter, pan gasket and lock pin. That $480 sounds like a complete change with a flush requiring more than the 8.5 quarts that the system holds (my dealer uses 14 liters for one). In light of that, it is not too outrageous.

In Nor Cal it is
around $400+ at dealerships and $200+ at some indy shops. Some indy shops wants to charge almost as much as dealership... so shop around but make sure the place has a good reputation.
Price will also depends if they can drain your torque converter or not.
