Sooo...Think it's totalled? Pics inside

Yesterday, sitting at a red light at 10:30AM and then... blam...

Hit me so hard my jawbone headset flew out of my ear, and my car skidded into a lexus in front of me (Irony since i was hit by a lexus from behind).

So, think it's totalled? Still waiting on the adjuster. Specs are 2000 E430 with 120K miles. It was, however, in FANTASTIC SHAPE and i knew it was going to run for ages to come. Kindof frustrating, but any ideas on what to get next if i dont want to spend more than the insurance money?

Looks totaled...

to me! What a bummer! Look around. You should be able to get another E430 in comparable condition with less miles for what the insurance pays you.

Ow...! Did your car scream or what?

I am not sure about totaled, hard to say until all the covers come off. You have a lot of miles, so it's a toss. Hope for the best on the outcome.

It doesn't take much

to total one of these cars. Value is only around ten grand which doesn't go very far in a good body shop. I just talked to a guy in Watsonville who's parting out an '01 E430 with 87,000 miles because of some front bumper and headlight damage, bent front wheels and drivers door airbag deployment. He said with the cost of parts for repair and what it would be worth with a salvage title, it's worth more as a parts car. Sad!

A Mercedes obviously!
Wow. I know how solid those cars are built. My father had a W210 in '98 and was in a very similar accident. Hit from behind at high speed, then he hit the car in front.

This was in the UK and did £13,000 ($22k) of damage to his E Class. My father's car was in the shop for almost two months getting repaired and his insurance entitled him to an equivalent car for the duration of time in the bodyshop. The nearest E Class they could find was $500/day...for two months. That came off the guy's insurance too.

I'd say it's a gonner

Did

you get hurt?nevermind you didYou are shaken up and stiff. You are upset. They are going to total the car.before they do you go around to several mb dealers and get prices and pics of 10 cars in like condition .when they hit you with the low ball figure you slide the paper across the table and say you won't take a check for less than the mid range plus $500 for how shaken up you were plus you want the salvaged car to be signed over and delivered to you.
you part it out on craigslist and the forum, have the carcass towed for scrap.members are looking for seats lights, doors, etc.
I wish you well.
you have no reason to speak to a rep from the ins party who hit you or make a statement to them. you made a police report, and a report to your insurance, the only thing you make to their insurance is the above demand not offer and then wait, first one blinks loses.

Unhappy

that's a bummer! good thing you were not hurt big time.
good advice there ohlord! also, before finalizing any deals w/ anyone, you should wait and see on how you will be feeling in the next days or months. aches as a result of impacts like that may come late!

i wish you the best!

I would demand KBB high bluebook dealer value! Then you can find a good private party car and keep the difference for your pain and trouble or to cover any unanticipated repairs to your new car. Also, don't sign anything they put in front of you without having your lawyer look at it. Soft tissue neck or spinal injuries can manifest later and result in months or years of physical therapy.

Good Luck,
Fred

That had to hurt. Sorry to see a good benz go out that way. Better the car than you. Any lesser vehicle would have had that Lexus in the back seat instead of just the trunk. Always great advice from the forum here. Get your money and find a new honey!

Been through the same scenario in a 300E. A 25 mph tap did 8k worth of damage. Your car is totaled no question with far more damage than I had. It is the frame that will cost the big bucks to replace or straighten and that is what will total it. take Oh lord's advice. I was an adjuster light years ago. He is right on with his recommendation. You will have to push hard with the condition of your vehicle to make your case. They will want to take a national average value for your car. Document any new equipment with receipts. Best of luck. Atleast you are alive to tell the story. That is the biggest blessing.

You should hope it's totaled, after an accident like that, if they fix your car it will never be the same. When it's time for you to sell your car...it will show it was in a major accident and you'll loose 25% off the value of the vehicle right off the bat no matter what condition it's in.

Totaled... Looking at the pictures the rear end frame is gone. Repairing will never be the same.
Demand for a replacement.
Good luck.

The car is a structural and monetary loss for sure. I've totalled them out for MUCH lighter hits than that.

Nice way to get rid of it. It looks like pure sheet metal work, and I'm sure some body shop will put it on the road again. I saw a similar job that ran about $6K 8 years ago. Given the extensive work, and that you were trying to sell it anyway, take the money and go.

Verdict is in, it's totalled. Repairs exceeded the value of the car. Still working to get what i think is a fair number out of the insurance company, but now i'm definitely in the market for a new car right now. Thinking C32, any other suggestions?
