Excessive Tire Wear

Is anyone else experiencing this? I have a 1998 E430 and I go through rear tires every 8 ~ 10k miles. I dont even drive it hard... they just wear so quickly!

Are you running OEM or aftermarket wheels? When I run 18's or 19's, the wear is terrible; that is, until I bought camber arms. Go ahead and find lensolo and he'll hook you up. I've seen them on eBay as well. If you run OEM, then you need an alignment. In either case, you'll need an alignment. Try that first if you're running OEM. If aftermarket, install camber arms, and then alignment. Good luck!

I put 30k miles on my new tires and they still look like new. Never even rotated them

I run OEM sports package 17's. Its weird. Its not wearing unevenly, just at a ridiculously fast pace. I am on Lorinser suspension, maybe thats it? Since the car has a lower center of gravity maybe the extra weight is whats killing the tires?

Absolutely. If you dont have a camber kit and your car is lowered, you are probably chewing up your tires due to camber issues.

Yeah, definitely consider investing in some camber arms for the rear and eccentric bolts for the front. Don't buy any more tires until you get those. Otherwise, you'll be chewing through more tires. Good luck!

Huh? He said it wears evenly, right? So why camber?

PS: Lower center of gravity does not add mass. FYI.

i agree with ron, if tires are wearing evenly then he doesn;t have a camber problem. what kind of tires are you using? summer high performance tires usually don't last long, most of the good handling/sport tire will wear faster. i never got past 12-15k miles with dunlop sport maxx on 17' mb wheels for the rears. one time i put brand new dunlops in begining of march and by mid december when i was going to put the winter tires on the rears had ~20% tread left. recently i am using falken 512 and from what i'm seeing i am sure i will get 30-40k miles out of them.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Lower center of gravity

increases suspension loading.Camber is affected even if you see normal wear pattern.Besides If the rim size was increased unsprung weight was increases and the tires wear faster.Tire compound could also be an issue.19's I bet and a soft performance compound.

recipe for wear.
