Smoking

those kind of drugs, can be harmful.

Now if you are asking about additives
Techron, seafoam once a year in a tank will help keep injectors and the rest of the system maintained.
Nothing in the engine oil,or the transmission as an additive is needed.

Techron is actually one of the two fuel additive products that are approved by Mercedes (see pic below).

Autozone just had them for free (after rebates) but it expired two days ago. I bought two bottles in Jan and have already received the rebate checks.

Advance Auto often has Techron buy one get one free. I often buy them on sales and use a bottle in the tank of fuel before an oil change.

When is the best time to add Techron? Just before a long trip where you'll run through the whole tank in a few hours, or when you are just doing a bunch of short hops taking up to 2 weeks to run through the tank? Or does not matter?

I have always believed that Techron benefits the most if the car is driven under a variety of driving condition, i.e, high RPM, low RPM, high load, and low load. Also I like to use the tank not in a very short time so the Techroned fuel can soak the system for a period of time.

I usually use it right after an oil change. It is not necessary but some have advised that a little Techron might get into the oil.

Actually, I think most suggest adding Techron BEFORE an oil change. As a poster earlier said, some of the Techron may dilute the oil a bit. I had heard Techron have this problem in the early days but thought it had been solved. Regardless, it doesn't hurt to do it maybe a few hundred miles before an oil change.

If your

engine has such bad oil control and compression control rings that oil dilution from blow by on combustion is of concern,I submit you have bigger worries than when to add injector cleaner in your fuel tank. You are talking about adding 10 ounces of cleaner into 18 gallons of fuel ,dilution of your oil is not an issue. If the engine was in that bad shape it would not be running.
Add it anytime,once a year.

I have heard of oil contamination (not dilution) and this is what I've always done. Usually run a bottle 2-3 tanks before my next planned oil change. Been using Techron (the concentrate, not fuel system cleaner with techron) or Redline fuel system cleaner in several older BMW's and my w210 and have yet to have a single problem with the fuel system on any of them. Also a good idea to change the fuel filter a few tanks after adding Techron if it is anywhere near due for replacement.

The recommended (correct) dose is actually 1 oz Techron concentrate for 1 gallon of fuel so 20 oz for 20 gallons of fuel. In some severely fouled systems, a double dose can also be used.

I got the Techron before oil change thing from the famous Mercedes mechanic and shop owner, Stu Ritter, the author of the "E-Class Owner's Bible". Sometime around 1995, way before all these Mercedes Forums, Stu, along with another member, started an email based Mercedes discussion list. The list is still alive today but it is a closed group. That means you have to regiter in order to read the archives.

They won't tolerate the kind of stuff spitted out of some people mouth/keyboards on these forums. They would be banned.

Anyway, back to the Techron thing. In 1996, my 300E was having a double warm start problem. In another word, if I tried to start the car, say parked for 20 minutes to about 2 hours, it takes two cranks to start the engine. Stu advised to use Techron. And as an extra precaution, he advised to use it before an oil change. Two bottles later, the problem was completely gone. I am a firm believer of Techron since then.

So I thought I go to Stu's list archive to seek his wise words about Techron before an oil change. It looks he still preaches that idea. I found a post as late as 03/25/2007 in which he says (other parts deleted because it was addressing a list of other W210 problems)"

1.

2.

3. Fuel Injector service.
I agree with george, get a can of techron or just before an oil change, run a can of BG44K through the system.

4.

I, of course, listen to him.
