HELP!!! HELP HELP!!!!! Mercedes Crisis!!!!!
I own a 2000 E Class 320 MB and liquid had spilled onto the center console/shifter. Immediately the car started acting weird. While driving it the car would switch to neutral on its own and reverse on its own (But not actually going in reverse the dash just read it in reverse). The shifter would no longer shift and when i shut down the car to see if it would stop acting up, it wouldnt even start because while i actually had the car in park it said it was in reverse. and you cant start in gear. we got the shifter unstuck and it started again and while trying to drive it home it started stopping on me on the freeway and acting totally crazy! i had to coast it all the way home because it wouldnt let me go faster than 10 mph the windows dont work and its seems that whatever computer chip is in that console/shifter it messed with the car being able to properly shift on its own. Can you please help me, or give me an estimate of how much you might think this will cost me.

upwards of $1000 if worst case scenario.
use the SEARCH function for this forum. try keywords "liquid console spill" and
read how others have attempted fixes. occasionally, they succeed without
the high price. each time you use the car, you jeopardize further its recovery.
liquid is a conductor. you energize the circuits and continue to short the
circuitry. stop now. read the various fixes and suggestions.

See earlier post I had with Oh Lord on the shifter saga and replacement. Part came from Autohaus and was about $150.00 included shipping. Easy to replace. I had lost 1st-2nd shift. The whole process was less than an hour to replace. It is much easier than you think. The whole shifter assembly is sold as a unit and parts are not available individually. Dealer quoted $488.00 for the part plus labor and it was done for much less with Oh Lord's help and parts source. Do not worry it can be fixed and not out much dough at all.

The OP
has not contacted me.
If it went into his shift module and not just the module with all the window controls,he may be in for more problems if he keeps driving it.Can't help him if he is not replying to the posts

The other great result from that era was the knee-operated drink ejector on the W163 M-Class.
