Anyone upgrade to HIDs w/ OEM Halogen housing?

Anyone upgrade to HIDs w/ OEM Halogen housing?

Just wondering how those aftermarket kits look without upgrading the housing/lenses.

Is the light properly focused?

Thanks in advance.

Iwould recommend getting the whole headlamp assemblies. True, it is a lot cheaper to get an H.I.D. retrofit kit, but then again you want the H.I.D's for the improved light output. Can't beat E-Codes :-)

Just my $.02

There are two different standards for the beam pattern of the light. First is the US or DOT standard, which every car in the US is adopted for. And then there is the European standard. The pattern is a lot cleaner and widely dispersed to the sides especially to be able to see things in front of you and to your passenger side, like pedestrians, etc. E-Codes also have a lot less glare than DOT spec lamps. Because of the cutoff of the beam pattern and the light is more "focused". That is all I know so far... Learned that from the Philips Lighting Forum when working on and HID conversion for my Plymouth Acclaim last year using DOT Audi S4 HID projectors and ballasts.

Hi,

I am planning on doing the same thing with my 97 E420 too. I think the benefit is not only cheaper but also you can upgrade to 8000K HID which I think looks better and should also be brighter than the stock HID. I believe stock hid is 4200K.

So for $800 less, ($400 vs $1200) I would go for the after market 8000K HID kit.

If anyone that have done this mod already please let us know the result.

Thanks

Ed

8000k lighting is just a tint of blue. You actually a lot of lose usable light output.

which HID would look better?

Which HID do you think looks better at night? Stock 4200K HID with clear lens or an aftermarket 8000K HID with OEM Halogen housing?

If you are going fo performance, go OEM 4200k. If you want looks, then go with the Philips Ultinon bubls, they still provide good performance and a beautiful appearance. I saw a car with some purplish HID's and they look nice looking at them but there was no useable output on the road. My friend bought the AutoLamps-Online Ultinon kit for his Escalade and they looked beautiful. Only reason I won't do Ultinons is becuase they won't come with the headlamps assemblies I want to order come tax time :-(

Anyone has 10000K HID on W210?

Can anyone post a pic of aftermarket HID with the oem headlamp housing? Anyone out there tried a 10000K HID?

I was going to get a 8000K HID and now I see there is 10000K HID available.

I would love to see pics before I buy them.

Thanks

ED
