try

And then look at the last set of letter and numbers of the vin tag located on the dash or behind the licence plate and buried around several other places on mercedes.

When ordering motor mounts they are specifically asking for ranges of 'engine' serial number. I can get all that info from the door tag. I realize where the VIN is. I just wasnt sure it had the info for the engine there too?

You can get the engine number from the following sources:
1) On the engine itself (stamped on the back of the engine)
2) A data card that comes with the car.
3) From a VIN decoder like the Russian MB site below. You put in the VIN, it wil generate the same data card mentioned in 2).
http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng
If it is not the original engine, then 1) is the only reliable method.
What you can read directly (other than on the engine) is the chassis number, not the engine number.

That's
why I pointed him to the chassis serial number on autohausaz.com.
The engines stayed the same,Mid year mounts changed with the chassis numbers. Always the last several numbers of the vin.'
He figgered it out![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

now does he have the diy on www.benzworld.org w210 diy section?
And that if you are doing the engine mounts might as well order and install new trans mount.http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...ission%20Mount
