Where to buy Mobil 1 0W 40 in bulk?

Looking to change my own oil, but I cant find it for less than $7 a quart! I know that Mobil oils come in the 5qt jug for around $22, but I cant find the 0W 40. Anyone have a source?

When I inquired at PepBoys about the 5qt jug (they didn't have 0W-40 in that size) I was told it would be/is the same per qt price (6.99x5).

Occasionally they have a special on 5 qts. of Mobil 1 plus a filter for $29.95. That's ($6/qt) the best price I've seen. Even better if you have a use for the filter. Good luck.

advance auto parts has same deal right now and they seem to have it every other month, 5L of mobil1 with a mobil1 oil filter for $29.95. you can use the oil filter on another vehicle.

autozone hardly ever has any deals on mobil1 full synthetic, but they are the only store that carries castrol syntec 0w30 (aka german castrol-gc which meets 229.1, 229.3 and 229.5 specs), and autozone right now has 5L of gc and 1 k&n oil filter for $26.95.

In lieu of Mobil 1 0w40 and German Castrol (two of the best OTC synthetic oils available), I would consider running Mobil 1 10w30 "high mileage", which can be had in the $22/5qt jugs.

The 10w30 HM is not specifically 229.5 approved, but it is an ACEA A3/B3/B4 european long-drain approved oil, and it's specs are quite similar to those of German Castrol 0w30 (thicker 30wt, very low pour point, high HT/HS).

If you want to stick with a 229.5 approved oil, then do as tirona suggested with either m1 0w40 or german castrol.

Sweet! What does everyone think of the Castrol Syntec? Maybe I'll just buy that!

US-made castrol syntec is generally an inferior "synthetic" oil, but Syntec 0w30 European Formula(which specifically states "made in germany" on the back) is one major exception. It is a GrpIV/PAO based oil and meets all of the strictest oil specifications by MB, BMW, and VW.

I would say German Castrol is at least as good as M1 0w40

229.51 is only required for DPF-equipped diesel models, and is not recommended by MB for gas engines in the US. If you are worried about using an oil that meets spec for a gas engine, use 229.5

Oil Change

Everyone.

I will just go ahead and get the Mobil 1 Ow40, do I have to change the oil filter or not???? I'm just trying to save some $$$$ instead of taking it to get serviced..

Thanks

Yes!!!!, you need to change the filter when you change oil. Not changing it will just re-circulate dirt particles into your new oil.

Here in Dallas 0W40 was around $6.25/qt, I just bought a bunch of them
