Oil extractor will work for all cars?

Will this suction method through the dipstick work for all domestic and foreign cars? I have not tried it on other makes...just want to know if this method will suction the oil out from the pan just as good as it does for Mercedes.

thnx.

since the dipstick

goes to the lowest point I use it on all the cars. The only problem is the Mg's require a smaller diameter tube so i build my own extractors electric powered and use a small tube that will work for all the cars.
Slightly warm oil extracts easier

A good check would be to see what your drain plug looks like. If the plug is flush with the pan, an extractor is probably going to work well, because the extractor is likely to get down to the bottom of the pan, lower than the mouth of the plug.

If the plug is below the rest of the oil pan, you should probably use the plug.

You can also measure how much you get out (the transparent extractors have volume markings) to make sure you get everything out.

It worked fine on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 litre.

Didn't work on a 2005 grand cherokee with a 3.6 V6 or on my Chevy Suburban 5.3 litre. The tube just will not get past a certain dipstick tube. Annoying

Did you try a smaller diameter tubing?

My extractor came with 2 different diameter sizes. If it does not work even with the smaller tubing then I wonder if it is the design of the car and it does not allow you to extract oil from dipstick.

Also depends on the shape of the pan. My 89 mustang has a double hump pan and 2 drain plugs. I can only access one of the humps via the dipstick hole, so it wont work on that car......

I cant wait to use it on my boat though! That will save me almost as much.......

Actually, Mercedes has specifically stated that the M156 engine (63 AMG) should use a drain method and NOT an extractor.

Probably a dry sump or a 2piece pan on the 6.3

If you have the money for one you probably don't worry about diy oil changes

Good feed back...thanks for the examples too...

I had a feeling that it would not work on all makes/models. Glad I asked the question...to be specific....would the oil extractor work on my 1993 Honda Accord commute car ? any one know for sure ?

The first time I used in on my Jeep 4.0, I took off the drain plug afterwards to make sure the pan was empty. It was.

Thumbs up

True that on the Jeep! I just did my first oil change a couple weeks ago, and I checked the oil before I started and was 1/2 qt low. When I used the oil extractor it had exactly 8qts in it. I was kinda surprised. Easiest oil change I've ever done. Cant wait to try it on my 66 stang too.

I used one that I purchased fron Northern Tool, It makes changing the oil mess free. Used it on my G55, ML500 and E320. The oil needs to be warm to hot to work.

That is true. I used it on my boat with cold oil and it took forever. The boat uses straight 40 weight oil so it's really thick when cold. Next time I'll heat it up
