rim and tire? Help before I do something stupid

hello everyone. I just got a 97 e420 after driving a 84 300d for the last 10 years. Love the e420 but the stock 16s look so small on the car. Does anyone know if 245/45/18 on 2006 s600 amg rims will fit. I need new tires and I can get these real cheap but I'm worried they'll rub and make my car look like 4x4.

S class used 14mm bolts and seats and E class uses 12mm bolts and seats. You will need special 14mm bolts with 12mm threads available through RAD I believe. Check the ET. The Eclass uses 30 to 35ET.

I'm pretty sure et32 was stamped on the rims

Those are some big tires to run up front. I would test fit first before finalizing any deal.

If you do a search on 'AMG wheels' you'll find a lot of posts with your question.

Not many problems with upgrading to 17" because it was a factory upgrade when the car was new. 18" and above you need to do your homework. Ride will suffer but maybe that's not a priority for you. Also, be cautious of fakes as it's pretty easy to change a stock MB wheel into a AMG looking one. Most MB wheels have part numbers on inside of spokes.

Good luck.

I tried searching other post for answers and the closest I got was people saying they run 245/40/18 but nothing about 245/45/18 (in front at least)

I don't care too much about the ride I work less then 3 miles from home. The #s on the spokes was one of the first things I checked, there true amg. Thank you for your concern there is a lot of knockoff mb wheels out there.

245/45 'will' work but only if a number of other factors and changes are
made (or, at least be ready to modify).

if the car is otherwise left unaltered, your car may be okay but upon hard
compression the tire may rub.

if you intend to lower your suspension, the odds of the tire rubbing increases.

if you have cruise control, and running staggered front/rear, this mismatch
will cause the cruise to disengage.

if you're planning to run 245/45 all the way around, your odo and speedo
will read lower and slower than it actually is....by about 5%

my reference was based on the OP's partial information. he only identified
front rims with 245/45, somewhat implying that the rear tire size may be
different. since it's unlikely he would have staggered with 245/45 all the
way around, the likelihood of mismatch, ergo cruise control malfunction,
increases.

you didn't post the tire sizes for your staggered configuration, so I have no
opinion on the suitability of your set up.

I have staggered on mine and the cruise feature is fine. so the devil is in
the details, ie the rolling distances between front and rear tires must be
within the narrow window of acceptability

OK so I passed on the 18s to much curb rash. Does anyone know if I put 17s from a 2001 clk 430 amg with 225/45 in the front and 245/40 in the rear if that give me any problems with my speed or cruise?

plug in both tire sizes. keep the differential between them to within 2% and
you should be fine

Make sure you check the wheel offsets too.

forgot to mention to plug OEM tire size as well, then each of your targetted
tires. this will give you an idea how much your odo/speedo will be off with
the tire swap.
