Fuel ralated problem
My 96 E320 will not fire up. It cranks but wouldn't start. Changed the fuel pump but it wasn't the problem. There is no voltage to the fuel pump at all. The red / green lights at the interior rear view mirror blink simultaneously when it cranks but not start. Anyone knows what might cause the problem? Check all fuses and they are fine. Why is the fuel pump relay located? It wasn't in the trunk, not next to the battery under the back seat either.

am thinking it is a alarm/security issue locking out the fuel system ,is there a fusible link to control any of the fuel system? what is in the system that locks out the fuel pump? am sure someone on here has solved this problem before ..now there is 3 of us with same issue ..

Flashing Mirror lights
Problem solved.
Replaced relay module passenger side under hood where all electronics modules are located.
One of the six relays was dropping out and/or not closing when it was supposed to, consequently fuel pump was off. Engine quit or would not start.

Problem solved
It is located in the box, passenger side, to the rear of engine,
There are several modules. The relay module is the one toward the front of the car and has several fuses on it along with 5 or 6 cable connections.
The MB part no. is 210 540 02 72 for the '96 E320. Dealer price about $192. Can be had from other sources.
After replacing this module, the engine consistently started properly, ran smoothly. There would not be any check engine codes resulting from failure of this module.

so to test to see if that is issue pull the casing off of your module ,the 2nd from left side relay is for fuel pressure,if when turn car over it does not contact then take a small screwdriver and gently make contact ,if starts then is it ,if the relay is already contacting then likly cps , that is how i diagnosed mine .. Thank You Greatbranch !!! although right now check engine lights come on ,am sure when new module put in all will be great ... once again thanks GreatBranch
