The attachment problem is an easy fix, but the broken hinge I have no experience with. The broken spring attachment makes the mirror sag and flop around. Are you sure your hinge is broken, i.e. have you removed the cover to confirm the problem?

Yes I have. There are two fixed pins that articulate the mirror either forward or backwards. The smaller of the two is broken. This makes the mirror pull out from the mounted position. The springs are also a pain as one of them is missing/also the anchor point behind the motor failed. getting these very strong springs to attach is also a pain without the proper tooling. Midnight Autoparts might have it. Not that I shop there...

OK, now I understand your problem, I think. I am only aware of one spring, the one that breaks off the attachment point from the backbone of the mirror. This is the attachment that must be substituted for. This strong spring is what sucks the mirror up against the black plastic gasket. It is possible that fixing the attachment of the spring would hold the mirror in place even with the broken hinge. The following DIY is my way of fixing the attachment of the spring. It is so easy it might be worth a try. The link is: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-w210-fix.html

I will try that!. I thought I was missing an additional spring/See attachment/ below the main spring. I was not around when my kids were playing tag and the left hand mirror looks quite different on outward inspection. That should do the trick. Thank you nelbur. Should help

There is supposed to be a spring there? I guess ignorance is bliss. The mirror works fine and rocks back and forward as it should. I have a mirror glass on order for the drivers side. (auto dimming = big money) so I should know more shortly. I will look for the extra spring. I plan to add the wire to the main spring to assist the spring attachment at the same time. Good luck with your repair. I think it should work.
