Replacing glass in drivers side mirror...

I have a 1998 e320 sedan, I need to replace the glass on the drivers side mirror. As far as I know I don't have the heated mirrors, unless this is just standard? Anyways, I found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=290428192108

Auction says it's for the heated version, just curious if anyone knows if this will work on my car?

Thanks for the reply... I can't seem to find a non-heated version for a decent price. Just about every one on ebay says heated. Anyone know the part #?

As mentioned heated mirrors were standard equipment. See owners manual (page 70).

My guess is that yours is both heated and self dimming. Both were apparantly standard on my '97 E 300 D. Do you have the self dimming inside mirror, with the little eye spot on the right side? If so the drivers side mirror is also self dimming. You did not say why you are replacing the mirror, but since many of the problems are caused by the self dimming feature, this adds to the possibility that it is self dimming. If so, be sitting down when you get a price from the dealer. Like most Mercedes parts, the mirror glass is available for less than half the Merc. price, on the web. I just replaced mine a week or two ago, so if I can help, let me know.

So I looked through the manual and apparently I do have heated mirrors and the dimming feature. But now looking through the ebay auctions they all say "without dimming". I'm not too worried about the dimming feature, as I never even noticed it, but will these work with my car?

I'm replacing the mirror because the glass is all foggy and looks like it may have been hit. I can hardly see anything with it. I did read somewhere on here that the heating / dimming feature can mess with the glass. I attached a photo of it.

One thing I noticed is my current mirror has a overlapping black edge. Is this part of the housing / cover? Because none of the mirrors on ebay seem to have that. I was hoping that was just part of the mirror backing, because if you look at the photo you can see mine is cracking / broken also.

Thanks for all the help guys.

It appears that the liquid that is between the layers of the self dimming glass has leaked out. The horizontal line at the bottom may be the current liquid level. The black surround is what separates the pieces of glass and holds in the liquid. My guess is that you will miss the self dimming once you don't have it.

I found a replacement glass with the self dimming and heating at
www.thepartsbin.com for about $220. Not cheap, but better than the $470 that the dealer will sell an MB glass for. Have who ever installs the glass, look at the attachment point for the spring that holds the mirror up against the car. This is weak on these cars, and it would be a shame to fix the glass and have to open it back up to fix the spring attachment in the near future. This link is my DIY fix for a broken spring attachment on my passenger side mirror. I have since applied the fix to the drivers side while it was opened up. It was half broken.

Hope this helps.
