Need help identifying part on OM606
Fellas,
I believe I'm getting an oil leak from this part of my engine. I'm having difficulty identifying what part of the engine this is. The part in mention is a cylindrical looking metal piece, facing the passenger side of the car, and is located right above the water pump. Any ideas or help? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks,

I believe that part is a heating element-plug. This was an option. You can connect a 120VAC (in the US) or 230VAC (in Europe) powercord to it to keep the engine luke-warm during harsh winters. Keeping the coolant warm will prevent the Diesel fuel from flaking and ensure a problem-free cold start.
I was under the impression this element was screwed into the engine block but this seems to be in the cylinder head. It is on top of the waterpump though so it sticks right in coolant. I don't think it's oil leaking from there unless it also passes through an oil-channel?!

Fellas,
I really appreciate the responses. After some research and other responses, I believe it is the timing chain tensioner. It would make sense because this tensioner has oil pass over it and sometimes leaks. Thanks again,

I need some info
I did my oil change and air filter, then I reset the service code B. I am getting a engine warning lite on the dash. I went in and found that I have a code 606 and i need to know what that means. Can anyone help? The car is running great, it has never had any problems.

You have posted in the wrong thread. This thread is about the MB engine type 606----has nothing to do with a fault code P0606----help us and delete your post and make a new one

I had a 87 TDT and when I first got the car it had an oil leak, it progressively got worse until I was putting considerable oil through it. One day I was trying to find the leak and discovered it was coming from this exact same part. I tightened it up, washed her off and no more leak. Someone said at the time it was an inspection hole for timing chain but not sure of that. Anyway tighten it up.
