Spark plug tools needed

You'll need a 3/8" drive ratchet, a 2-3" (? or longer) extension, a 5/8" spark plug socket, a T30 torx bit socket and boot removal tool (Hazet 2771 or equivalent). If you don't have a torque wrench, you can tighten the plugs to seated plus 15 degrees. 15 degrees is equal to 3 hours on the clock face (ie 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock). This is BOSCH approved method.
To get air cleaner out of the way, you need a slotted blade screw driver or appropriate size socket for hose clamp. Rest are just clips.

It's a T27
that is needed for the coils.
Also a thin walled 16mm spark socket is easier.
a u joint swivel comes in handy
place some rags in the ecu/duo valve area(it likes to hide tools and bits dropped in there
17mm special spark boot tool ........................You really don't want to try the job without it no matter whom you get it from.

don't get suckered into multi tip plugs the m112 and m113 engines hate them.
Take your time
do it on a cold engine with plenty of light and in the shade of a cool tree

T30 on my '98 but maybe it changed. 16mm spark plug sockets are very hard to find. Snap-on doesn't even make one. 5/8" works fine.
No problem with multi-tip plugs here. I doubt BOSCH would recommend them if there were any serious problems. But I doubt there is any big advantage either.

Gents - getting ready to try this on my SLK, and damned if I can put my hands on that Hazlet boot puller tool. I've got an old pair of KD Tools spark plug boot pliers I used on less sophisticated engines - anyone tried something like this?
Also, anyone know the torque spec's for the plugs?

Pliers are a hassle to use.
If you can't get the boot tool you could wait till I find out how much to ship one to you or in a pinch make your own.

Actually it's just an open end 17mm wrench with an offset in the handle. There is a ridge near the end of the metal spark plug boot. The 'tool' is used to leverage against the cylinder head and that ridge and pry the boot off. They are a press fit not screwed on.
The boots can be pretty tight after 100K or so and the spark plug wires can get damaged.

The tool all are referring to is an offset box wrench that can had purchased from any tool center even sears. The handle is offset. Save your shipping money and get it local to you following RichardM98's post above.
