Cadilitic Converted 2001 E320 needs repair
The mechanic wanted $3700 for the install job; which was pretty high to me--and I really am having a hard time justifying putting that kind of money into a 9 year old car. I also found out that he inflated his Service B price to $400, whereas I could have taken the car to the MB dealer and had the same service done for $298.
Anyone know where I can get this job done reliably for much less? I am really tight on money with this tough economy. I am in Northern California--near Napa.

You can also install universal cats from makers such as magnaflow for under 5bills both sides
Or complete units both sides for under a grand r/r.

He is ripping you.
I can't spell. I should have typed, "Catalytic Converter."
I don't think I'm skilled enough for a DIY job without some training.
The nameless mechanic who was trying to rip me off said that I needed both right and left converters replaced as well as new oxygen sensors.
I'm wondering now if I really need just one side repaired and if the existing oxygen sensors can be re-used? Or is it better to just replace the sensors when you do this job?
