That is correct - that is where it "breathes" in air when the vacuum valve is actuated. It does not attach to anything and don't cover it up.

Off topic but that all looks sooo much cleaner when compared to a Diesel EGR!

It took my car 3 cold starts (3 days of daily driving) to give me a green light on all the engine sensors. After changing the Valve, my P0400 issues went away as well. Here is the thread were I described all I went through: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...lp-needed.html

Yes, Thank you. I was reading your P0400 saga
I'm almost 200 miles with the new ERG valve and it looks good.

I just pulled mine out on Saturday too. I found my tube to be pretty clean almost no build up. Guess it may be because I use "super" religiously. But what I did find was one of the rubber hoses, was bad. It was the one that goes from the EGR to the connection next to the throttle body opening. Now I just need to go to my buddies shop to clear the code

Also did your buddy just buy that E30 Mtech. My friend just sold his it had different rims on it.

My friend just sold this one whole thing rebuilt. Paint was in "ok" shape with two tone interior dove gray and charcoal alcantra suede inserts. Before selling he changed the rims to ones similar and added a rear spoiler.
