Red face

hey, i was hoping for something a little more specific.. i am not car savvy at all.. i have been reading every/any forum for the last 6 hours because i want to be cautious. I am anxious being it's so hot, but at the same time, i am so broke, i can't pay attention. I have a large can of r134a from 'the zone' but just wanted to see if there was something that i could do on my own, without driving 100 miles to my father to help me out. (i dont know / muchless know hwo to vaccum an a/c) .. was just trying to see if i could do something (to my car) on my own..

If there is something i can do to 'reset' the a/c (because it is possible it's an uncommon error"") , that would be cool. . but looks like i will be sweating like a pregnant nun in church.. ~~ <~~ thats sweat!!

patience is a virtue, but heat is a Bi***

thanks

the hvac is a complicated system. i dont think it's as easy as getting the
readouts and saying "ah!" just do this. the diagnostics helps narrow down
the possibilities but then a modicum of repair savvy is expected in order to
fine tune the solution. in a sense, you 'walk' your way through the various
go-no-go options.

did you consider posting your readout on that other site and have the guy
help interpret? he's only asking $10 via Paypal as a contribution. seems
quite knowledgeable

you asked

For something more specific.
I can't think it can get anymore than Ray already gave you.
You have no pressure in the system as shown in value #7 00
That means the compressor won't run, you have leaked out all of your r134a coolant
You need to have the leak repaired and system recharged.
Is your ec light stuck on?

Can you tell me how to pull those codes on my 96 E320? I have cold air out the passenger-side but not on the driver-side?

Hi all,

Just bought a 95 e320 in mint condition. Just about everything works except the a/c.

A little history on it:

previous owner states she replaced the compressor last year. A/C worked for a few months, then she garaged the car for the summer, and the a/c stopped working when she started driving again in october.

When I got the car, the compressor would work for 1~3 minutes in the morning. Then the fan would just blow regular air.

I took it to a garage that does a/c service and had them charge the freon. They verified that the vacuum is still good and that there were no leaks (pressure was good, they said).

The charge did not help. Still blowing regular air.

So i took it to another place, an auto shop that specilizes in electric and a/c. These folks traced the problem to a compressor relay that was not turning on the compressor. So i had the part replaced.

The a/c worked for 3 minutes. Then it stopped again.

After 3 hours of troubleshooting, it's getting dark. So the a/c specialist gave up and asked me to come back tomorrow.

They ended up not charging me the $140 they wanted to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

So i was driving the car back, and i turn on the radio. The radio display works, but no sound came out. And the minute I turn on the radio, the buckle-up sign came on instantly, along with the interior lighting next to the buckle-up sign.

The radio eventually came back on and the buckle-up sign went away. But that really gave me a scare.

The other funny thing was, the driver side window's 1-touch open function failed as well. But resumed working after a few repeated tries.

Any ideas?

I've so far had the compressor replaced, charged the freon, and replaced the compressor relay. The mechanic told me they've confirmed the thermostate working, along with a few other a/c parts that they confirmed weren't the issue.

I'm a bit weary about bringing the car back to this auto electric place and thinking maybe i should just bite the bullet and send it to the dealership to have it looked at.

Any suggestions are most welcome!!

Theo

My Idea

Find a better A/C shop. A good MB indie shop that knows Mercedes systems.
Second thoughts.. You said you took it and had it charged after you bought it.
If it was in need of a charge after the po had a new compressor installed then the system has a leak it needs to be located.. r134a does not just mysteriously vanish and leave a system
" They verified that the vacuum is still good and that there were no leaks (pressure was good, they said)."
My last suggestion ask your question in the w124 forum,it is where your 95 belongs

i'll try the w124 forum as well. i do have a good local garage that specializes in mercedes, but they charge almost as expensive as the dealers!

Anyways, thanks for the tip!!
