DRL vs. No DRL
Daytime running lamps
In the Canadian models, when the ignition is turned on, the exterior park lamps come on. When placed in a forward or reverse gear the low beams come on.
Is there any way to defeat this without giving a malfunction indication? Perhaps by interrupting the ignition unit at the light switch?

I read it on ML class, but likely the software is shared on most of the models.
What you need to do is getting a computer that can read car programs and reset it from Canada to USA version.

I'm. There are no mandatory regular safety inspections here.

Even if you find the wire, it will trigger errors, so you have to do it the right way.
I wish that was as easy as on my Ford truck, where I simply unplug the relay.

Is this the case with the pre-facelift W210's as well? I'd read (can't remember where, may have been another forum) that this was a function of the headlight switch on these cars.

And these are the options available in the attached pic. I had a hunt around and was not able to find where I could reprogram the SAM so the car knows it is in Canada, and the DRL's are to be active. Any pointers?

I found info that the option resets in AAM
Here is another topic. Since SD computers are rare and owners who know how to operate them even rarer, you have to collect bits of information and give it a try.
