00' E320 tranny swap now in limp mode?
Hello everyone, I bought a 2000 W210 E320 wagon that had a bad transmission. I had a 2001 W210 E320 wagon with a great transmission, I took the transmission out of the 2001 and put it into the 2000. The transmission stayed in a single gear without shifting and the reverse worked. I'm assuming it's limp mode? I'm wondering if the transmission conductor plate needs to be reflashed or to change the plate in the transmission? Any reasonable comments or experience in this area would be appreciated!

Okay, it's time for me to quit screwing around with my 01/2000 W210 E320 and get it on the road. As earlier in the thread, I replaced the transmission with one that I know worked perfect. Now it is in limp mode. I purchased a icarsoft mbII scanner it said it would work on my car and looking at other ones for sale on eBay they say they will fit it aswell, I upgraded it online and I still do not see E-Series W210. Has anybody been able to use it on a car like mine.? Does anyone know of a way to reset all codes manually? Jumpering pins Etc?
Once again thank you!

"Okay its time I quit screwing around with my bla bla" based on the epiphany you had and purchased a BS diagnosis tool---you now have an oxymoron and no your BS suggestion to manually remove faults strongly suggests that its not time to quit screwing around and follow the suggestion in post 2

I'm not sure if this helps since it's a different car, but I once drove a 2004 Lincoln LS. Long story short, the car threw me a trans code and went into limp mode. No scanner will clear it. so went online and researched it and bottom line was I had to take it to dealer and have them clear the code. Car drove fine after that.
So I really hate going to the dealer, but I had no choice but to make an appointment with them. Yeah, costed me arm and a leg and one of my internal organ................just to clear the code.

As I understand it, the 210 sends only engine related stuff to the 16 pin OBD plug. They send the rest to the 38 pin plug under the hood. Some scanners have a 38 pin adapter available. See if your scanner has one recommended. Some 38 pin adapters are junk, so use what your scanner recommends. I would guess this 38 pin stuff is a Mercedes plan to force people back to the dealer.

post 7 is very misleading as all diagnostic data is available thru the 38 or 16 pin socket. there is no difference except retrieval location. the other misleading point is that the transmission control unit is on the same bus as the engine control unit and the transmission faults are read by the engine control unit and can be retrieved by a sausage willey scanner, but the detailed transmission fault can only be retrieved by a scanner that is designed to do so such as post 2 has indicated and you can use either a 38 or 16 pin plug cable to read the car
