Going to pick these tail lights up today, question about install

im going to pick up these e55 tails today, and was told i will only need to modify a tab or two on each light to get them to fit, is there anyone here that has done the retro and knows if that will be all?

heres a link to the lights

If they are factory OEM tails, they should be a straight swap. It appears the ones you purchased are just the lenses (no bulbs) and the ad states "This is a set of W210 Mercedes Benz tail light lenses only no bulbs included. Brand new, after market and look like nice as the original one.DOT & SAE APPROVED."

Good luck

How did the install go with the lights? Did they fit properly?

They won't be a straight fit . The the center two on the OEM MY00+ need to be trimmed down on the inside or else they will not fit.....elemnt, if you take the middle two off, you'll see Jimmy's done some mods to make them sit flat on the panel of the trunk......

There's quite a bit of shaving needed to make the MY00+ E55 taillights fit MY96-99 W210's. I have a whole thread including pics. somewhere in here. Do a couple of searches and you should find the thread. If I was in town and avail. I'd shave them for you but unfortunately I'm in Miami Beach at the moment and won't be back for a couple of weeks. Good luck on the search and modding and make sure that you have a dremmel or other small rotary sanding tool avial!

Bwaaaaaaaaaahahahaha, oops, sorry if I did, lmao. I guess that was before I really knew what I was doing, hehe. :p

Anyway, anyone who attempts this should have an electric rotary tool of some sort. Some people have also used a hot blade but I've never tried that and besides, the dremmel tool makes it quick and easy. Find my thread and you'll see the pics. people. Good luck!

You know what, I couldn't find it either. I wonder what could've happened to it or maybe I posted the thread in another forum. I'll look around to see if I still have the photos and instructions and let you know...

Not yet. Trying to sell the house first and then we'll see what happens...Hey, if I can't find the info. for your taillights, just have the bodyshop install the outer lights and leave the trunk ones off and then bring them down to me so I can shave them for you.

I haven't checked but Chappy did point out that those are aftermarket (according to the ebay ad) so maybe they are made to fit...dunno. If u haven't got them, I would double check cuz at that price, u can get OEM ones but u'll edefinitely need to mod them.

Hey Davey boy, if you have that pic. please post it so these guys will know where to shave it down. After you guys see the pic, please note that the areas that are circled need to be taken almost all the way down. It's okay if you poke through on a couple of spots but just be careful not to completely remove any sections because it's reflective and will cause a slight dark spot when mounted.

I would try them on first since the ad does say they are replicas and most replicas are made specifically for this type of retrofit so maybe they'll fit....no point shaving off the plastic if you don't need to, right?
