Nothing MB related (sorry)
It is possible to add a navigation drive in the trunk in a W211 E-class. Here is a link with more info:
http://www.mbenznl.com/products/dvdnav.shtml
Depending on what options you have from factory, you may or may not need another trunkliner.

1 large bill shipped. Then I had to bribe the dealer to version code the dash so it can display the nav in the MFD. Not needed for nav to work but nice to have.

Thanks for the info. That's not bad at all. Cheaper than getting it from the factory or dealer installed.
BTW, this should fit my 04 E320 too, right?

1G....That's awesome...
Steph,
Excellent post - i plan on doing this SOON to my 2005 E500 4matic - i'm assuming its the same setup as yours.
What do i need to tell the dealer to do so far as clearing errors in the buffer ??? Can you take a pic of what you are talking about as far as nav directions on the MFD? I haven't even seen those in the brochure!

The MFD basically shows you direction of travel (N, E, S, W, etc) plus the name of the street you are on. And during guidance mode, it will display arrow and distance indicating next turn. I'll snap some pictures this weekend.
As far as version coding, this is what needs to be done (Taken from MB's Star Bulletin). I was driving around for weeks prior to dealer doing the version coding and didn't encounter any problems. So it may not be an issue if you can't get the dealer to do it for you.
1. Connect Star Diagnosis to the vehicle.
2. Set the MOST ring configuration to match the diagram:
Control Units/Information and communication/Audio, video, navigation and telematics/
AGW - Audio gateway/Retrofitting of MOST components<F2: restart of optical ring>/
Retrofitting of MOST components <F2: Actual configuration of MOST components>/Actual
configuration of MOST components (table listing the actual configuration of MOST components
will be displayed): <F2 if correct>)/Retrofitting of MOST components (question: Is the current
actual configuration of the MOST components to be written into the MOST master as the future
specified configuration? <F3: Yes>/Retrofitting of MOST components final screen should
indicate: Result: Coding has been successfully completed.
Note: The diagram on page 7 is an example of a MOST ring configuration including all components.
Some installations will not include all the components shown in the example. If a component is not
present, connect the preceding component to the component following the one not present.
3. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and the head unit. Any present DTC(s) should be
investigated and the source identified. Once identified, the source of the DTC(s) should be corrected
and the DTC memory cleared.
Note: Powering up the newly installed system prior to the above described version coding will set
MOST ring configuration errors. These errors may be ignored during the initial DTC check. If, after
clearing the DTC(s), they return in the next step, a configuration error is present and must be located
and corrected.
4. Confirm that no new DTC(s) have been set in the MOST system group.
E. Perform version coding: Instrument Cluster
1. Control Units/Information and communication/IC – Instrument cluster/Control unit
adaptations/Version coding/Optional equipment (a table of optional equipment will be displayed
indicating if equipment is present or not present) for equipment: Navigation, select <present> then
<F3>/Optional equipment Is the coding to be transferred to the control unit? <Yes, F3>.
2. Control Units/Information and communication/Audio-Video……/Navi/Control unit adaptions/
Navigation parameters/Select BR 211 <F3> Yes.
