facelift...

yes,

My understanding is that they are giving all E's the AMG package as standard, have fixed the steering wheel controls, added XM radio and nav as standard equipment.

Sorry.........couldn't resist!

Seriously, I don't think they are doing anything for 06 as the 350's have no visual differences. I've read some people are saying 07 as it will coincide w/ the introduction of the new V8. Besides, MB isn't known to drastically change a car until the change of hte body every 7-9yrs.

I was planning the trade-in deal out while I read that... It would be just my luck that they would do all that and drop the price by $2500 for the '07... anyway.. if they do, I'll eat the $10000 loss, if they just add some cosmetics to the car.. then I'll just wait for '09.

sorry guys...

I was just kidding on the first part - that's just a nice wish list i thought of. The second part (after the "i couldn't resist") is a more informed answer, all be it just from what i've read on various forums & car rags!

It'll be interesting to see what engines will show up in the facelifted E-Class.

Mercedes have two new four valve V8's (along with a 6.3 liter AMG V8). There will be a 4.6 liter and a 5.5 liter V8. The rumor is that they will be called S450 and S500 in the new S-Class because Mercedes prefers to keep the S500 tag.

Now will MBUSA import W211's with both V8's? If so, why? Since fuel is still relatively cheap in the USA then why not bring in only the 5.5 liter to make sure it outperforms the current 5.0 liter V8.

There will continue to be a 3.5 liter V6 and at some point in time there will be a new V6 diesel.

Low sulfur diesel fuel is supposed to be available by the fall of 2006. It will actually be about 15 ppm in order to meet the standard because there will be some of the old 500 ppm fuel in the system that will bring it up a bit.

So what will we have next year? E350, E550(or E500), E320 CDI V6 and a 6.3 liter AMG barn burner.

We'll also get a revamped brake system similar to the one in the new S-Class and some facelifting. Of course we might also get more decontenting

Just to be different, I'd like to have an E450. I know the E350 will outperform my E320 but not enough to make the switch and give up the advantages of having a 2004. The 5.5 liter V8 is overkill. What I'd like is the 4.6 liter V8 in a chassis w/o the air suspension. The price would be more reasonable and probably not include a gas guzzler tax.

My second choice would be the tri-turbo V6 diesel.

Oh. OK. We'll probably have to wait until the Big Redesign of '09 for those items on your wish list. Unless, of course, we stop by our friendly local Acura dealer today and buy an RL (minus the AMG kit).

I want a V8 Diesel... that will be the next E class I but. And if all goes as well as it has been for MB diesels so far, it's going to be sooner than I had originally thought. It may be in the form of a new redesigned 2009 E class, or the S class.

I heard an E55 engine could be fitted into all E350/500 as a no-cost option ? On top of that, free maintenance, tire/oil change for 5 years. Another source said 2 months of lease payment being waived by BenzChrysler

I doubt we'll see the V8 diesels in the US. US emission standards for 2008 (I think it is) will require a particulate filter with Urea injection. The Feds are worried that this isn't going to work because car owners won't get Urea refills when necessary. The Feds want a maintenance free emissions system good for 150K/10 years and the Urea injection particulate filter isn't maintenance free.

The new S-Class (W221) has an even longer wheelbase than the W220 so what's needed is a short wheelbase version. Combine that with a V8 diesel and you'd have a pretty nice car.

Anyway, I agree with you Sam. A V8 diesel with staged turbo charging would be great.

I believe the 2007 face lift for the 211 will be shown at the Frankfurt auto show (late September -- I think the show ends on the 25th). I can't remember where I read that, but I think it was at GermanCarFans.com in an article related to the upcoming intro on the new S.

Eitherway, I've never been a facelift buyer.. I tend to prefer buying at year 2 or 3 of the first production.. this give plenty of time to work out bugs, and plenty of time to enjoy a new "looking" car.

Past results are no guarantee of future performance, but ... if you look at pictures of a 1996 W210 (in the "Used Car" section of Edmunds. com, say) and compare them to pictures of a 2002 W210, there is very little difference, at least to my eye ...

Does this mean that California, New York, ect will be able to get these new Diesels? Thanks

Yup, maybe even one of the fine BMW diesels too. Mercedes new V6 diesels come standard with particulate filters that meet EU4 emission standards. That should satisfy the 50 states until 2008 or so when the standards get tougher. All that's held these diesels back is the lousy diesel quality in the US that would contaminate the particulate filters.
