How much to replace brakes?

My dealer called and charged me $385.00. Is this reasonable?

For four wheels, that actually sounds very reasonable compared to many quotes on this very forum just so you know!

The brake wear indicator came on at almost 34,000 miles. I had the front and rear rotors and pads replaced. The cost was $1261.66 plus tax ($683.96 parts and $577.70 labor).

That is criminal. You can buy all the parts including the sensors on the Internet for $369.20. That labor charge is for close to six hours which is insane.

I could do it all with the factory jack and one jack stand in half that time. Just imagine how long it should take with a lift and impact wrench.

If they tell you it's because they have to take the time to de-energize SBC, ask them why it costs $200/hour for the wrench to sit around drinking coffee while the process is going on.

Frankly, I think SBC is providing dealers with the excuse to gouge their clients. SBC doesn't scare me but the cost to service it certainly does. When I'm told I need to change pads and/or rotors, I'll tell them thanks for the Info and I'll take it to an Indy with the parts and tell him what I want done and how to do it. I'd do it myself but I can no longer kneel.

Yes that is a very good deal on a 4 wheel brake job. I paid 800 something for the front brake job. I'll never do it again! and yes I know I'm an idiot for that..don't rub it in please
