Missing features from the newer 211 series

Hi everyone,
I have deliberately left out the year features of the models because the US year lives in a different time zone to everyone else

What I am after is the list of features that disappeared from the E-class in approximately August 2004. Puddle lights, charcoal filter switching etc. I have carried out a quick search but have failed miserably although I know it is out there somewhere.

Would this date represent a 2005 model in US talk?

Thanks for any help

John

If the C Class has a charcoal filter why wouldnt the E class have it ?

Most of the changes appear to be in the cluster. Due to the number of silly complaints there are now fewer default cluster functions.

Your reply is confusing. What cluster are you on about?

I am NOT referring to any type of E-class that has NOT been released I am merely refering to the 2004/2005 real date models

I have to be very careful on what I accept because hte items that are listed by both your very good self are still available on European 211's.

SBC Hold is still there, but I think the Hold has been removed. Parameter steering is still a basic feature on larger versions 320CDI and above. SBC will of course shortly be going.

Distronic is still available on all 211's

Dynamic seats... Still an option.

I have asked about Easy Entrance\Exit

I am 100% certain the list is available on this excellent forum, but I blowed if I can find it.

Many thanks for the contributions so far.

Thank you very much indeed for posting that very informative list, and what a pain in the proverbial I am.

The list is something I would expect our Prime Minister to come out with, and I am NOT having a go at you.

I appreciate immensely the time and effort you have taken.

Let me explain where I am coming from.

Someone I know has just taken delivery of a new 211. It has folding mirrors... Just like your list shows.

BUT....

You cannot set them to fold once you have got out of the vehicle! That feature has been removed from European vehicles.

Your excellent list is right to say the vehicle still has folding mirrors, but they do not do what a 2004 model can do. (I hope I am explaining myself)

The lights in the base of the external mirrors (NOT the indicators) are they still there?

European\UK COMAND to the best of my knowledge has always had navigation as the only choice, only US vehicles have this option

Thermotronic is now a cut down version as is SBC

This is an interesting, if confusing topic and sadly, one I find interesting. The reason I have asked though is not morbid fascination. Someone has asked me what has been removed and I have lost the list that I once had.

Thank you very much indeed for what you have done, I appreciate it.

Very kind regards,
John

Mine is a late build '05 and I have the easy entry / exit seats and steering wheel. The dynamic seats are still an option as well..

As for the charcoal, the only drop is the option to turn it OFF. The only change is that the rest feature is no longer on the E.

Yes, I do also have the puddle lights under the mirrors.

So how can you "code" airbags in the seats for the drive dynamic feature when there not present and puddle lights also.... or am I missing something????

If you dont have the hardware then you dont need the coding. Puddle lights dont require coding instead they required lamps and a short cable. Its like $15 at most.

I assume you do have dynamic seats ? They can be added if you ask MBenzNL. If the airbag is not present then someone decided you dont need it. Other than that .... I can code it. I may give an error !

But if you do have memory seats and you want some options coded then some of those missing menu options can be activated.

The 'Folding Mirrors when Parking' is I believe a do-able task if you have access to Star Diagnostic equipment. It certainly begs the question WHY blank it out as an owner option.

I'm with Harley on the other omissions. Puddle lights are gone, but please do not read to much into this as there is still one set of these lights on each door. W212 has very kindly posted that very extensive list and the least I can do is take a picture of the mirror. Please bear with me on this because it will take some organising. (Because of my condition )

This quest has certainly backfired as I thought I had kept a copy of this interesting information.

Oh and yes the hydraulic system will I believe have the options that we have grown used to and hopefully the brakes will be as efficient. It will also have individual fog lights come on as you turn corners which I believe is in line with our ugly runt of a brother the CLS

Thanks everyone for the information

some slow@$$diesels
the puddle lights in the mirrors were already taken out a long while ago...together with the removal of these puddle lights mercedes started to use different door control modules in which the TWO PINS for the puddle lights are missing (eventhough the DCM itself STILL has the coding for it that can be activated).

The 2006 models no longer come with isolation material on the inside of the doorpanels...

The 2006 models do not have a clip on the backside of the HK badge anymore...MB saved 0.01 cent on that clip and just bend the 2 pins that go through the speaker grating

The (US spec) 2005/2006 models had quite some coding taken out of the instrument cluster...depending on model (211 - 219) and exact build date it differs per car but some of the previously available menus that were taken out are:
- changing from CELSIUS to FAHRENHEIT
- changing from AM/PM to 24H display
- easy entry for the seat (steering column is still there)
- limitted opening of the trunkcloser
- auto folding mirror feature when locking the car
...and some other basic menus that I already forgot about...

The climate control unit was changed a while ago as well - plenty of info on that on this forum...

the distronic setup was changed a while ago (somewhen during 2004)...
the parktronic displays were changed somewhen in 2004 (the newer displays have one additional LED on the inside)...

...and so on...

greetingz,

Hi,
It is a couple of excellent options removed at the request of MBUSA

SBC Hold is where we simply give the footbrake a quick jab and this will then stop the car from rolling. Ideal if you are on any type of slope. You can take your foot completely off the pedal and the vehicle will not move until you press the throttle.

SBC Stop
Not used anywhere near as often and not as popular. It has now been removed on European vehicles. You set this when in very slow moving traffic and when you take your foot off the throttle the vehicle comes to a comfortable stop. Hence there is no need to apply the footbrake. This option automatically disconnects above a certain speed.

If you want I can copy out the full description of how each option works, but I have to have the keyboard resting on my chest and then type with one finger.

My language was a bit strong and perhaps I should apologise. Here is a picture of the control layout, I have not forgotten W212's request but I am a bit poorly at present (number one son scanned the manual)

As can be seen there is a switch which can activate or deactivate the charcoal filter on the earlier models. It has simply been removed on newer versions. (Mine is a January 2004 build) and as can be seen is a 320CDI Estate. We can have every option that is available to any of the E-class range and we did indeed go daft with the specification.

I was talking to the Merc rep and he told me they took out the seat movement on the easy entry because they were sued by someone who got out of the car and the kid in the back got his legs squeezed. I said squeezed, not cut.

It seems lawyers have far more power then common sense.

Anywho....

For all intents and purposes, that should be a software fix. Since the seats memory function is not deleted then it makes sense that the option is still buried there. When I go in for my service, I wll try to find out if I can get it re-installed.

I will let you guys know.

The climate control unit was changed a while ago as well - plenty of info on that on this forum...

the distronic setup was changed a while ago (somewhen during 2004)...
the parktronic displays were changed somewhen in 2004 (the newer displays have one additional LED on the inside)...

...and so on...

greetingz,
Is there someway to acees the software?
