Angry harman/kardon® Logic7 not really powerfull

Has anyone notice but me?

I have a 2005 E500 and use to own a 2003 E320 and I must say that I am not happy with the harman/kardon® Logic7® Digital Surround Sound System.

I think it does NOT crank out that much power, punch, i.e. Base! The louder you turn it up, the less rich the sound is.... It's it me or should MB put a better SUB system/SUB amp or amps in general in the car?

I also own a 2003 SL500 and the Bose system is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have any suggestions on adding an inexpensive aftermarket Powered SUB that can be hidden? NOT looking for an SUB that takes up any trunk space.

Actually my experience is the opposite. I had a bose stereo on my CLK 320 and i was disappointed...poor base and it never got that loud. The bose system on my w210 e320 was much better

I had the Harmon Kardon on my e500 and have it now on my w221 s500...it rips the bose system to pieces...

any ideas why they are using bose systems on some cars and h/k systems on others...are they phasing out the bose system?

Wink Bose....

Hum, well I can say the Bose in my 2003 SL500 is PERFECT. Don’t get me wrong, I like the harman/kardon® Logic7® Digital Surround Sound System in my 05-E500, the sound stage sounds great, just wish it was more powerful and delivered more cleaner LOWS in the SUB....

Actually I've noticed and know exactly what you're talking about. My previous volvo S70 had a 200-watt sound system which I'd have to say packed quite a punch already, so I was quite dissappointed in the Harmon/Kardon Logic 7 as it didn't really scream 420-watts to me.

Not to say that the Harmon/Kardon system in the E500 is bad, by all means no, its great! But I would've expected atleast double the umph/thud considering it is double the wattage w/ the addition of a subwoofer. Now I know wattage isn't everything but I guess maybe I was expecting the margin of improvement to be alot more noticeable atleast.

Does anyone know where the sub resides in the E500?

I agree 100%

WOW, now I know it's not just me. I agree 100%, I just dont see the system being a 420-watt system!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Harmon/Kardon system in my 2003 BMW 330i pushes out my BANG then the E500 and the BMW's Harmon/Kardon system is way lower watts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ex BMW IX
Just my 5c-worth:

I had an E320 Avantgarde W211 with standard sound system. Nothing wrong with it as far as factory sound goes.

Changed to a BMW 540i E39 with Logic 7 (BMW Branded) and the sound was ok. No difference really between the W211 standard sound and the L7 in the BMW in my opinion.

Changed to a BMW 645ci E64 with Logic 7 (BMW Branded) and the sound was really good. Much better than the E39 and W211.

Recently changed to a CLS550 W219 with H/K Logic 7. The sound blows the BMW systems out the water. Bass response is far superior and no drop in sound quality at high volume.

Compared to a friend's B&O system in his Audi A5 convertible the H/K7 system kicks serious but!

My 2004 E500 with the H/K Logic 7 sounds very good. I am very impressed with the quality of the sound reproduction, even at concert sound levels. I can run it higher than what it sounds like standing right with the conductor during the finale of Beethoven's 9th with the full chorus.

Now, it may not get to ear-bleeding loud, but it gets rather loud and still keeps high quality sound. (It is hard to push it to clipping levels - not that one would ever want a sound system to start clipping)

My main problem is that for stereo recordings, the "Logic7" equalization and "fake surround" adds a bit of harmonic distortion and misplaces instruments from time to time. Very disconcerting to me when I play a piece that I know well.

Please keep in mind that a car's acoustics will have a dramatic affect on a sound systems percieved quality. If the sub is in the trunk, a larger trunk can provide better bass response. Speaker location and how sound reflects around the interior will affect sound quality as well as imaging. Throw in the fact that sound "quality" is highly subjective and you have a situation where one person thinks a certain sound system in a certain car sounds awesome and another person with the same sound system and same car will think it sounds like crap.

I have the HK system in my 2003 E320, and I find the sound is very good, although the bass was pretty weak. My sub actually failed, and I decided to add a 12" sub, in a ported enclosure with a dedicated 350 watt amp in my trunk. Problem solved.
