Did you check your transfer case serial number against the TSB? I guess the number should appear on the data card too if you don't want to find it from the car (I don't have a 4-Matic and am not sure about the data card).

Service Campaign 2008110002 NOV08 – MY09 211 (E) & 219 (CLS) the torque of the nut at the circuit 30 terminal at the prefuse box may not meet internal specifications. This could lead to a ground interruption and discharge of the battery. The red battery charge indicator in the IC will illuminate should this ground interruption condition occur. Dealers will replace the circuit 30 terminal nut and re-torque. Approximately 117 vehicles affected. Have your dealer check VMI to see if your vehicle is included.

Wife's E500 wagon has grinding/rubbing noise from transfer case at slow speed turns where large differential in turning radius left to right, i.e. transfer case clutch pack is shot. This is a well kept 60k mile car. Clearly this is the issue covered by 2007100004 but VMI for our car shows it is not included. Interestingly, that TSB doesn't give VIN ranges, only Transfer Case Serial Number ranges. Dealer put the car on the rack and claims our case's serial number is not covered. No love from dealer or MB Customer Care. And this is our second e-class 4Matic wagon. Only offer is to split parts 50/50 but they are padding parts costs to the point where that's only worth a couple hundred bucks. I can get the transfer case from a local independent for $2500 and they want to charge me half of $4000, plus $600 for fluid, plus labor.

I'm of the opinion that our car is exhibiting the same symptoms as the other cars covered by 2007100004 and there's no reason for a part like this to fail so early with no abuse for any reason other than manufacturer defect. But they're stone-walling me. Any tips on how to get them to be more open minded would be useful.

Anyone else have these symptoms and no TSB coverage?
I'm going through the same issues with the dealer now. Unfortunately my situation is a bit different...we purchased my wifes 2004 E500 4M in early 2005 and had the transfer case replaced under warranty in 2006. So we could very well have a later year transfer case in our '04. We had the problem reoccur last fall and took it to the dealer which gave us the 'figure 8' fix (well before the 1yr unlimited mileage service warranty). Needless to say, it helped but not for long. We of course didn't get the TSB as ours is a 2004 model, but know we know it's transfer case serial number dependant and not the VIN...I have an appointment on Friday with the dealer again...we'll see what happens.

My dealer tells me this is only applicable to vehicles (second owners) that are purchased from a "private party" - I can't verify that anywhere - know anything about that ?

Thanks

Recall Campaign 2005110001 APR06
Installation of ground wires and bracket to SBC wiring harness
E (2003-2006) / CLS (2006) / SL (2003-2005)

What exactly is this recall for? Is it the fact that the wires are not grounded? Reason I'm asking is because I have a '03 E500 and when I press the brakes you can hear the SBC pump rattle coming through my rear subwoofer. Anybody have any ideas?

For peace of mind have your dealer check VMI (vehicle master inquiry) to confirm if your vehicle is included (within VIN range A042945-A791708) and if this and all applicable recalls and service campaigns were completed.

May be the ground connection at the Audio Gateway (AGW), SBC ground, or possibly the woofer wiring harness. PM your email address and I will forward relevant information.

I recently got a recall, I can't recall what the letter said exactly, something to do with the drivetrain and possible power loss. I hadn't noticed this as a problem when driving although at times when flooring it in comfort mode it hesitates and almost 'chokes'. It was obviously free but i didn't notice any power upgrade but the hesitation has now stopped. The downside is, i now know for a fact i need to chip my car, the power just isn't enough

I am at dealer right now, and they said a new campaign was just released (who knows if true) to replace oxygen sensor on my 2007-E320 Bluetec. I don't know if it is really new, but might be worth it for people to ask their dealer about.

Service Campaign 2009020001 MAR09 carbon can foul the oxygen senor upstream of the catalytic converter that may cause the Check Engine Lamp to illuminate. Dealer will replace sensor with an improved sensor and update the engine control module software.

06 E320 CDI
Kongistiger....

Wow, first off thanks for all the information that you are providing us here.

I would like to ask about getting a VMI. I just purchased an 06 CPO'd E320 CDI
and would like to get any and all info on the car.

I was looking at 2 vehicles, well talking to 2 dealers from out of state and asked them for VMI on the vehicles and both of them flat out told me NO we don't give out that information to buyers.

So now that I own one of those cars can I get a VMI print out from my local dealer?

Is there a way to check to see if all recall have been performed on my vehicle? and then what is needed if I have to address a recall?

Thanks again for the help

Yes, you can obtain VMI info (not necessarily a printed copy) from your local MB dealer who should recognize the opportunity that you may choose them to perform service. VMI will confirm if there are any outstanding recalls or service campaigns, of which any dealer will perform at no cost even out of warranty using VMI to justify entitlement.

If you want a copy of your vehicle’s MB datacard (initial delivery date, equipment, codes, etc) PM your email address and VIN -or- https://mbworld.org/forums/2518219-post1.html

You don't have to PM anyone for the MB Datacard, just check this link and put your VIN number, everything you need to know:

http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

Not to mention that is FREE and you don't have to pay anyone just for the privilege to KNOW about your car.

FYI: although this site is handy it is not always accurate for North American vehicles.

The EPCNET Online, crashes in my Mac (10.5), tried with both Safari and Firefox browsers with no luck.

Any Mac guys know the issue and workaround?

Disable the latest Java version on your Mac and try to download older version like before December 2008. I am almost 100% that it will work. The EPCNET are kind of slow with the site updates.
One other option is to try OPERA browser, simple but effective.
Good luck

Called my local MB dealer and asked for the VMI. Only thing outstanding is replace Pilot Bushings on my 2006 E500 4matic. Would this mean that all other recalls/TSBs were done already? I didn't own this until Nov 2008.

Yes, this means all “recalls” and “service campaigns” applicable to your VIN other than the outstanding one you mention were completed.
