I need to order a replacement hood emblem, what do u guys think look better? Star or Flat hood emblem?
MBWorld Fanatic!
I voted for the flat hood badge, because that's what I have and prefer, but there isn't any right or wrong answer. It's entirely a matter of personal taste, like the many other esthetic issues debated here. I prefer the flat hood badge for the usual reasons (fits the style of the W211 better, unpretentious) but some people believe that the tristars on the hood and the trunk are the best parts of their car, and I'm not going to argue against that.
Now, in the unlikely event that I someday have an '07 W211, I would have to rethink my preference. Having two adjacent flat badges, one on the grille and one on the hood, might look odd.

Out Of Control!!
It depends.....
If you're talking about that ugly flat plastic badge that Mercedes sells where the colors fade, then stick with the star.
If you're interested in a really NICE flat badge, check out this thread on the C Class Forum:

I'm looking @ the one on fleabay. under $30 shipped. I've seen these in person and quality looks to be ok.

I'm torn on this one...I ordered a flat badge while awaiting delivery of my car. I have yet to take down the star as I like it. Still trying to decide if I will use the flat badge.

Why buy this one off e-Bay, when you can buy exactly the same part at the dealer for $20? That said, it is also the same item that Revstriker discusses earlier... A plastic part that color fades after a couple years in the sun. Check out Rev's link in post #4 to a new badge that might be an option if you are willing to wait for it to develop.Originally Posted by dannieboiz

I think the star is one of the best parts of the car. It has kept me company, many a lonely night, driving long-distance. Looking at the star, illuminated by headlights, always brings a smile to my face.

There was a time--before I bought my first Mercedes back in 1985--that I thought I would replace any star emblem with the flat badge. Then I got my first Mercedes, and the star grew on me. Now I can't imagine not having it.
