'06 CDI Price Question
A dealer here made me an offer to buy an off the lot new '06 E320 CDI with Premium Pkg, Sirius Satellite Radio and Electronic Trunk Closer for 52477.
I was wondering if that is a good price given the current May incentives from MB. I am trading an '05 Jetta (new style) TDI and getting 23000 for that.
Can anyone please let me know if this is a good deal? Thanks!

Buy it!
Price sounds pretty good. Not sure about the trade in value. If you like the car and the color, you should get it. This is the last year for the inline 6, a brute workhorse with no fancy emissions stuff. I have 2 and love them. See if the dealer will give you a deal on Nav if it is not installed. Good luck.

MSRP: $55785
Invoice: $51880 (benchmark 7% mark up)
$52477 = $597 over invoice

Konigstiger, what is your best guess - will the 07 CDI be 45 state legal or 50 state?

“The E320 BLUETEC will deliver about 35 mpg US (6.7 l/100km) and be “50-state ready” for emissions restrictions (given the availability of the EPA-mandated ultra low-sulfur diesel)—meeting, in other words, even the more stringent emissions standards of states such as California where new diesels currently are not sold.”

Hey guys, thanks for the info. Yes, it is Iridium Silver Metallic paint and the price according to my research was about $100 under invoice. When I went to purchase that one it was already sold. So the salesman searched inventory and found me a Pewter one with more options than the Silver one had. Pewter is the color I really wanted anyway. The MSRP is 58,885 and he will sell it to me for 54,500.
This Pewter one has:
Premium Pkg
Parktronic
Split Folding Rear Seats
Wood/Leather Steering Wheel
Lighting Pkg.
SIRIUS Sat Radio
What do you think of this price/deal? They are also paying off my 05 Jetta TDI (15000 mi) at $23,000 which is above trade in value. I think I'm doing pretty good but wanted to get more experienced MBers opinions.
Thanks for your replies!

You may want to consider evaluating your deal by determining the invoice price rather than dollars off sticker.
Since you have a high-demand trade-in, you'll do far better by selling it yourself.
Good luck!

I bought my E in March. That sounds about $2-3K better deal than I could have gotten back then. I got the Pewter and really like it. It's one of those colors that looks good in any light. I bet the dealer will sell at the price pretty fast as deisel cars are hot right now.

Quote of 54500 is below invoice more or less mirroring your first deal (motivated by that boat load of 07s arriving shortly) and would be considered acceptable. Your motivation in knowing the 07s are just around the corner should be to pick MBUSA accessories you would like and ask that they be thrown in complimentary. Remember the dealer is making coin regardless by way of the holdback and any back door incentives given by MBUSA.

Ok, thanks! I just got the all weather mats thrown into the deal. I don't want the hassle of selling my TDI myself so the $23K payoff is ok with me and I think I'm getting a good price for the CDI.
Thanks all for your input! Happy MBing!

Yes, I did get the sales tax credit too...thanks for the reminder! What other accessories can I ask for since I think I can squeeze another $500 bucks out of him based on my TDI payoff and CDI price. Please let me know.

Would he cut the price even more if the trade wasn't part of the deal? Sounds like he's giving you a good price there, but this might be by not discounting the new car as much as he could. I agree that selling this car yourself shouldn't be hard.
With luxury brands like Mercedes incentives tend to be in the form of dealer bonuses rather than rebates, and info on these can be hard to get. They can be very large. Automotive News and Edmunds sometimes have them.

I'd get the Parktronic equipped car. In three years you will never know you spent the extra $3k. In fact, you may find him more willing to deal on the more expensive, harder to sell, car.
That said, an '07 will always have higher resale. It is a model year newer. It will take 4-5 years until the model year-to- model year depreciation is less than the discount. If you are only keeping it 2-3 years, you probably should get a 2007.
We have a 6-cylinder CDI, and it is a superb motor. Better than the BMW 520 engine in our last car IMHO. However, the new engine should be very good. I believe it has balance shafts. It has a generation newer variable vane turbo and a newer higher pressure fuel injection system. It is lighter, and more compact allowing AWD. It may be better than the old one, although a straight six with 4v DOHC and a cast iron block is hard to beat.
