What car were you driving? 560SEC is a little slow compared to G35...

dude, G35 has a sweet 260HP v6, the same engine in the z-series cars. THis doesn't surprise me considering that the e benz are considerably weights more. I am considering buying a g35 for my next car.

What level of E(engine)? E350 or E500? a 500 should take a G35

A 350 will not...

FYI - G35 Sedan automatic = 280hp 6MT = 298hp.

I'm sure it weighs a few hundred pounds less than the W211 as well.

We have an Infiniti FX with the 280hp motor - pretty nice ride but as posted earlier - the interior needs some help.

The wifey loves the look and the whole "350Z with a backpack" fun factor - good thing too since it's her daily.

Nissan is supposedly upgrading the G35 interior with the '07 model, and adding a few more horses also - 7500 RPM redline in '07. The exterior restyling looks like an improvement over the current model, too. I'm with sklasse - when the '07 G35 comes out in November or so, the wifey and I will take a look at it for sure. We really, really, miss having a manual transmission.

^^^ that's exactly how I felt about the G35 Coupe. I was ready to order one (my wife works for a company that gets really great Infiniti/Nissan pricing) but as much as I love the styling of the exterior - the interior was a deal breaker.

G35 sedan/coupe for the money are tough to beat if you don't mind the interior.

the g35 is an great car handles great very peppy better and firmer throttle response. the interior is a little plain but its still not that bad it could be worst. i still felt pretty bad that i got beat by a g and a sedan at that with an auto trans.

one thing i keep forgetting too... your driving a benz bro...who cares.. its not a race car...

E55 is just plain sick.. sick *** performance.. and your still n a nice *** benz.

your car is much better looking in/and out.. if you want a performance car... a mercedes is just not it.. unless you spend alot of money on a E55 or SL55 or somthing.

yeah your right but, when you compare a 06 e350 to an 05 g35 sedan the benz is supposed to our perform. now if we are talkin bmw 5 series kickin my *** then i wouldn't feel so bad. but since we are on the subject of bmw my buddy has a 325i and we was on a freeway goin about 60-65 and all the way up to 100mph we was dead even. after that i stat pulling away hard.that is another thing that kinda trips me out that a 3 series can keep up with me that way it did. i know a e350 isn't a e500 or e55 but it should still produce more performance and out do any of its competitors especially the smaller vehicles.

Power to weight ratio and we all know the W211 chassis isn't a lightweight.

I have a 2004 G35X as a daily drive

I am not surprised that you got beat. Not only that, the G will out brake and out handle your E as well My E will outrun the G, but the G out performs my E in steering, brake, and handling> However, the G is a much noisier car on the road.

Exactly right. Appreciate your Benz for all the things it does well and don't expect it to do every possible thing better than every other car. A Subaru WRX or Mitsu EVO would kick your tush too, but would you really want to drive a car like that? Didn't think so. Not even an AMG does everything well ... they burn up a lot of gasoline, not that the people who buy one worry about things like that.

will it outperform a benz with the sport package? the suspension on the E-class with sports package, is insane.. ive driven a G and i dont think the handling is nearly as good, braking maybe.. however i drove a E350 non sport, and its not nearly as good as with sport..

yeah your right but, the wrx and the evo's are what they are small cheap and fast. im talkin about every day cars that every one else is driving. you see young and old people driving 3 series bmw's and mercedes e classes. if im at a light and i see a little old lady on my left side reving her engine i know she will give me a run for my money. and even though that car wieghs a little less and has less horse power it say it still sucks.

Re: G35 Performance

I traded an 05 G35, the 280 HP 4 door version, RWD w/sport package for my E500 last year.

While I can't speak for the E350, I can state without a doubt that the E500 is much faster the the G35, not really a contest. The G35 is a V6, and weighs in at about 3650 lbs, which is a few lbs less than a 211, which would put the the E350 at a disadvantage. The G35 coupe is not materially faster than the rear wheel drive sedan.

If anyone is wondering, I don't miss the G35 at all. Dealer service in the Washington DC area was not at all impressive, the interior, paint, and other trim bits demonstrated a lot of cost cutting. My E500 has proven to be a better car in every way. For those contemplating, I would think long and hard before trading your Benz for an Infiniti, it is an opulant Nissan.

The 325 is no slow poke.. If you drag a 525 vs a 325 the 325 will kill it. It takes a 530i to beat a 325i even then its not much of a beating.

If you look at the power of a german car vs other cars you will notice they make large amounts of torque for a very long time starting from a low RPM. When you state the G35 has 298 hp thats at its redline. The G35 also makes peak torque almost near its redline.. The E350 makes peak torque from 2,400-5,500 rpm. I would of expected the E to beat one in a drag race but I guess the lighter weight and slightly more HP will do the job for the g35.

Traction off/tip mode = slower for the CDI

I'm fastest tracton on, regular shift.

If I turn off traction and goose it, the car lights the tires gone in smoke and actually usually gets a little sideways. E55 wheels, chipped ECU 425 lb-ft.

Trying to "tip" with the diesel in a hurry results in over-rev and out of powerband. I know the 350 gasser revs higher.

I would love to run versus a gas E350 just out of curiousity. I know I would slay it off the line but eventually..?
