November Road & Track E350 Sport Review

The November, 2006 issue of Road & Track has a nice review of the E350 Sport. Stats show 6.3 sec. 0-60, .82g skidpad, 14.7 sec 0-1/4 mi., and braking 129 ft. from 60 mph (226 ft from 80).

R&T liked the new steering feel, stating that it offered "more precision and feedback."

Question for those who have driven both the sport package and the "regular suspension" E350's: what differences do you notice, and how "significant" are they?

Where did you get the November issue from so fast? I haven't seen it in the mail yet!

My car mags always come early. I must be close to the distribution center. Just lucky I guess.

I know straight line braking data by itself isn't too meaningful but that data isn't very impressive.

I wonder how the new brakes compare with the SBC brakes on 2006's.

2007 E350 Sport
sport vs. non-sport

Had an '03 non-sport and now I have the '07 Sport. The sport has a harder ride, but not harsh, and seems more precise in tracking. These are largely subjective differences. The appearance of the gauges and the dual tailpipes and front fascia have a better look to me than the non-sportwith the exception that I would have prefered the choice of not getting the burled gray wood.

Al in all, the sport is a great choice especailly with no added premium.

I have a 07 E550 sport package and I tried very hard to not get that black looking wood. Unless the sun is shinning on it it looks like plastic.! The burl walnut is much better looking in my opinion. I even wrote a letter to the mbusa president before my car was built. But he said it could not be changed. I am sure next year it will be a low or no cost option. Oh well maybe Steve has a price to swap out the wood in our cars.

By the way do you have the ipod or bluetooth installed? how much was it and do they work well?

Thanks Stevec32

Steve, the cost in insignificant for both options IMO. Bluetooth is a great option and should be added by almost everyone with a bluetooth phone. Its clear and it works flawlessly. iPod integration is great since you can control your entire ipod from your steering wheel or COMAND. Its easy and the sound you get through the HK system is amazing for mp3 files.

Steve, you can change your wood if you ask for option W60, it will cost you but you can get the Rep to give it to you for free or at a discount. That is the option I added to my 550 order and it was possible.

However mine is in Europe so I guess you will have to try to see f they can put that number when reviewing your order.

Thanks about the bluetooth and ipod info. I was not aware about the option to change the 07 wood. We ordered the car with burl walnut about the first week the dealer had any info on the 07's. But about one week later info from above came down and said burl walnut was not available in the sport package cars period, even though it had been a no cost option in the 06 sport package cars. My car is long since built and I should be getting it in two weeks. I will still enjoy the car very much.

I have the MB Bluetooth adapter that fits in the center console. I believe it was about $300 but I had it thrown in with the deal. It works great and downloads my phonebook like my Bimmer. The problem with it is that it continues to work even when the ignition is off and I'm in the house or a nearby building.

The bluetooth adapter is great. I love it. My rep at calabasas mb told me to buy it the second i sat in the car and it was worth every penny of the 350 plus tax! He told me too that everytime i get a phone call, ill be thinking of him and how glad i was to buy it and its true! It is so cool to have the stereo mute, the phone book in the dash and on command, dial calls from command even with the phone in your pocket or your suit jacket etc. etc.

However, when i leave the car and in the house, etc, if a phone call comes in, the mb will still pick up the call, even if im not in the car, so you have either run away from the car or drop the bloo tooth connection.

Otherwise I love it.

Sounds like a big pain. I'm glad I got the cradle.

14.7 in the 1/4 huh? Not to shabby for my grandmom taxi cab daily driver.. heehe Remember the 1990 Mustand 5.0 ran 14.2 in 1/4... hmmm...

Hey- what was the E430 1/4 mile time? 14.5? I can say there "feels" like a big difference from my 2002 E320 SE to my 06 350... Not sure what the performance on the 02 E320 was...

Good thread..

20+ to list......
I had an 07 E350 Sport 4MATIC for a few days as a courtesy car because my E550 was at the bodyshop getting some upgrades done, my thoughts on it is the ride is definitely less comfortable than my E550, decent power, great on gas, fairly good handling, and great value for what it is. If the E350 sport is what you are looking to get, I would suggest the special edition they offer for the cancer cure event, which is listed on mbusa.com

You basically get the P1 1/2 package as it doesn't come with Keyless Go; it has the AMG bumpers and wheels; it has a different black paint; and it carries a $1695 upcharge for those changes when compared to a regular sport.
Have fun with those almost white seats.
