If you have ever changed the brakes on a car i would highly suggest that you search the forums because there are some amazing threads on how to disable the SBC in order to change your pads and save yourself the hassle of paying through your nose in labor. Once you've done that it's just like changing the brakes on a domestic car (I have a crown vic ) I've done both the fronts and the rears on my '03 e320 and i prolly paid about 300 in parts for all new rotors, pads etc and that's from the dealer and not aftemarket parts. The only catch is that the rear pads are trickier because you have to loosen the E-brake then retighten it after the install and you need a torx attachment to get the calipers off.
as for the low mileage, i had to change my fronts at about 20k as well, rears at 40k. We'll see how these new pads do. I may think about switching over to ceramic aftermarket pads like pagid. They are supposed to be less messy with brake dust.

CALIBER MERCEDEZ ANAHEIM quote me $ 225 + Tax, but When service is done they charge $245+ TAX, so they are not too honest.
On the Service Paper it show that Front Brake is 15% and Rear Brake 40%. So I guess I need to replace Rear Brake at 40K.
After the service, everytime i step on brake it make squelling noise. This also happened before i replace new brake on occasionally basis. When I ask the service advisor, he said that is normal for Mercedes.
It doesn't make sense why Mercedes brake make such a noise for expensive cars.
Even my 00 Camry doesn't make such noise.
Pls advise

Brake Job Today
Just had brakes done on my wife's 05 CDI. Lots of stops and starts, but at 38,750 it was time. I was going to do it myself and had bought the OEM pads and rotors, but I kind of chickened out, since I hadn't done this job before and time was short. I brought it to a MB repair guy, who is not a dealer, but works exclusively on MB's. I watched carefully and he worked continually for about 2:45. He needed some leverage to swing the sledge to get the rotors off. I wouldn't have been able to do it up on a jack. Labor charge and tax came to $256. I supplied the pads and rotors. Glad he did it. We disconnected the SBC at the pump and got no lights after starting the car when the job was done. Doesn't really pay to keep the rotors.

I have 16,500 miles on my 2003 E320 and did my first brake pad replacement yesterday. I needed only rear brake pads--not front and no rotors. My costs were as follows:
Brake pads $254.00
Sender unit 71.85
Brake paste 9.22
Quiet brakes 13.94
Low VOC brake and parts cleaner 5.51
TOTAL $357.36
less 15% coupon (expired but
they honored it anyway) -53.60
Tax on parts 8.53
Amount paid $312.29
They gave me a free 1-day rental of a Toyota Camry and a free car wash.
I was happy overall. It was done by my dealer, Mercedes Benz of Long Beach. There definitely is NO brake squealing!
I have 10.0 mm left on my front pads. My rear pads were at 2.0 mm.
Thanks to everyone that provides information here. It helps us all!

Last time I was in the dealer, they said I need pads and rotors on the front, and it would cost 900$. this was at Autobahn in San Mateo, CA
Now, I am looking for either another dealer, or seconday to do both on a 2001 C class. Anyone in the bay area know a good shop on the peninsula to do this job?

Doesn't the diesel engine do a lot of "engine braking" for you when you lift your foot off the throttle? Gasoline engines don't have that immediate abrupt deceleration the moment you lift your foot off the throttle.
...or don't modern day Diesel engines do that anymore?

I was just quoted $600 for front rotors/pads at Mercedes of Pleasanton. Good price? How much should I expect to pay for my rear rotors/pads?
Edit: Mercedes of San Francisco quoted my $510 for rotors/pads - same price for either axle.
I also called John's European in Dublin. They were recommended to me by my boss. They charge $450 for the fronts and $400 for the rears.

Replace Front Brake, still squelling noise
I Complaint my to Caliber, this is what they do:
28226 FRONT BRAKE PADS GLAZED DEACTIVATED SBC REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS REACTIVATED SBC TORQUED WHEELS TEST DRIVE NO SQUEEKING FOUND.
After that I test drive, less noise than before but still squeeking.
Is that Normal? OR maybe dealer is not using Original parts?. OR maybe Original parts is not very good?
How much is to replace rear brake?
