Sunroof Question?

The sunroof must be reset if the battery has been disconnected or has become discharged, it was closed manually (emergency operation), it does not open smoothly, or there has been a malfunction. More than likely your sunroof is not opening smoothly. Same held true for Barry, this is why they cleaned, lubricated, and then reset. If your car is still under warranty I would suggest bringing it back to the dealer. If not, you can see by simply fully opening (not tilting) what you can clean and lubricate to the best of your ability.
- Remove the fuse for the sliding/tilting sunroof in the main fuse box (interior driver side), reinsert the fuse
- Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition
- Press and hold the switch until the sliding/tilting sunroof is fully raised at the rear
- Keep the switch pressed for a second or two
- Check that the sunroof can be opened or closed fully
- If this is not the case, it will be necessary to reset it once more
RESETTING SIDE WINDOWS:
- Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition
- Press and hold the switch up until the window is closed
- Keep the switch up for a second or two

I had the seal replaced on the sun roof and I believe they used some kind of spray to lube the rails. I don't know what you are supposed to use on a W211 but on my 300E, there is a special (and expensive) lubricant called Gleitpaste (p/n A 001 989 14 51) that is supposed to be used. When I talked to the service department about it in Minnesota, they told me they didn't use it but used some kind of spray-on lubricant that had an Audi part number.
Anyway, I bought 500g. of Gleitpaste and have been using it for years on my cars and also on anything that slides. It's amazing stuff.
Recommended for garage door opener rails and is temp extreme tolerant :
