Buying E320 Bluetec...need some answers

"New guy" to this forum, so some questions may be stupid

I am assuming that there will be no 4Matic offered for the 2007 E320 Bluetec that was released this week? I have looked everywhere I can for a concrete answer, but to no avail.

With no 4Matic, I need to make the car look just a little sportier than stock. So, there is no sport package that will drop the suspension a couple inches. I have the '07 E320 Bluetec Dealer Option list, and it is quite confusing as to what wheels I can add on as an option. The new 8 spoke wheels look great, but I don't know much about them. Other than looks, I would like to get the highest performance wheels and tires that I can.

I am by no means a speed demon, but I do like to kick it up a notch every once in a while to over 100 (You should see my '87 300 SDL with 388,000 miles on it, smokestack when kickin' it in the **** and gettin' it up to 120 , it's hilarious). So, with that in mind, I would like to put a chip in the new E320 after 5 or 10,000 miles. The factory limiter cuts power at like 133, right? So, I would like to equip the car from the dealer with good rims and possibly a high-rated tire--any suggestions on rims, tires, and a chip?

I have all my work done at Worldwide MB up in Indianapolis. The Bluetec fluid should only need attention during services, right? I just don't trust the dealer we have here in Evansville. It's a 3 hour trip up to Indy to get service, and I want to make sure that I am not going to have to take my new Bluetec to a local dealer for something stupid like just adding fluid to the exhaust system.

Thanks in advance. Great Forum as well, keep up the good work!!!

AFAIK the bluetec urea injection fluid is not in use yet for USA, otherwise it would be 50 state approved. Yeah I'm pretty annoyed you can't get 333 sport with the bluetec even though thats how they showed it at the NY auto show... what a tease.

Definitely no 4Matic for the 07 Bluetec.

The urea injection system is called AdBlue and like, Kar Don said, won't be in the USA for MY 07. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdBlue

So the exhaust system will still be the Bluetec, but the urea won't be added till '08? Would be fine with me. No strict emissions regulations here, so really didn't want the urea.

Correct. 'Bluetec' refers to the exhaust system, NOT the V6 motor, nor the AdBlue urea injection coming next year.

To the original poster: 18" wheels/tires taken off an AMG E-class or sport package model will dramatically improve the handling of the CDI/Bluetec for the smallest amount of cash. Or you can go with aftermarket suspension modifications and/or wheels/tires...many options for the W211. As for a 'chip', the V6 diesel has just become available...nobody even has the car yet, let alone been able to develop new software for it.

That's too bad. The addition of the AdBlue will likely make the '08 model year E320 eligible for a tax credit available under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Aftermarket suspension...

I would like to stay away from any non-OEM aftermarket options if I can. So will my dealer be able to get me AMG rims, or will I have to try and find a decent set from someone changing them out on this site?

Like I said, I'm a new guy here, but I wanted to make sure that the w211 covers all E classes, right?

Maybe, but that doesn't guarantee you can take advantage of it. I haven't bothered to check the details, but as I understand it, there is a cap to the number of vehicles per year that can qualify. So if you happen to take delivery later in the year, you may be SOL...especially by 2008, as more cars (read: hybrids) become eligible.

Well kinda... but it is a cap per manufacturer, not a cap on all of the cars combined. Still, one would need to buy earlier in the model year to guarantee maximum credit. Here's the official IRS verbage:

The phaseout period for a manufacturer begins with the second calendar quarter after the calendar quarter in which the manufacturer records its 60,000th sale. For the second and third calendar quarters after the quarter in which the 60,000th vehicle is sold, taxpayers may claim 50 percent of the credit. For the fourth and fifth calendar quarters, taxpayers may claim 25 percent of the credit. For quarters after that fifth quarter, taxpayers may not claim the credit.
Could they make it any more complicated?

Here's some info on tax credits by make/model with projections for 07/08:
