Only that it's likely to be about the same as the 2007 and 2008 E-Class. I haven't seen any hard information yet on when the W212 is due, much less what it will look like, If anyone else has, please chime in. Based on the length of the W210 model run, seven years, I would expect the W212 to arrive in 2009 as a 2010 model. The leaked information and teaser/spy photos should start about a year from now.

well from the recent sales figures, redesigns from bmw and infiniti are starting to eat away at e sales, the look is starting to look dated especially with the all the new 'furistic' styling in the german cars the new 3 , x5, c-class s-class . I believe, in a businessweek interview with the CE0 , he says people want an E as a "family cruiser" type of car......so maybe more space, more styling ,yet boaty w212.

I certainly will be looking at the r230 SL-class, its a 100K car, pure sports car.

I too would say we'll see a new E for the 2010 model year. So there is still a little ways to go.

They are already leekeed. The "E" will be completely redesigned in the 2009 year model. Picking up many of the cues from the S and CLS. Some spy photos have already been circling.

I wouldn't call a year-old speculative artist's conception a "spy photo", but whatever. If the W212 will be a 2009 model, out in 2008 - which I doubt - then the slow striptease of gradually-unmasked "test cars" on public roads should be starting any time now. We shall see.

Various W212 artist impressions

The once I have come by to date (have seen them posted before on this forum, so this is a re-post...). Especially like the station wagon and Auto Bild impressions.

Curious if anybody found any new once ??

folks, both BMW & MB will not wait around 7 years as they did before for a redesign. the market today is simply too competitive and consumers are very sensitive to the "in" car, so the newer models will never enjoy the same level of longevity as before. 2009 for the next gen E class sounds right.

btw, BMW is freshening the styling on their (crucial bread&butter) E90 3 series sedan already, and it's just hit the market!!!

They'll wait 7 years for the simple fact that neither of them can keep re-designing their cars that fast. It has always been the E first, then a new 5 and then the A6. The E will be showing in Europe in either late 2008 or early 2009, for a MY 2010 debut in the U.S. The facelift has to go at least 2 years otherwise it wouldn't make good on the bottom line money spent for the changes. The earliest would be the 2009 model year, but I doubt that. Mercedes has the C and GLK to concentrate on now.

even though these were posted before the s-class and c-class introduction ....they surprisingly enough have the same wheel wells and rear end treatments which leds me to believe this COULD likely be the next E. Even the headlights are like the c-class.

In which case w212 will rock

That doesn't say much. Concept drawings of the new S have been out since late '05 I believe. Maybe even earlier than that.

It is just a bit too early to know anything about the next E. The C and its many variants are up next. The CLK and E are likely on target for 2009 or2010 model year.

If they dont get the nav right (STREET NAMES PLEASE!) and a legitimate back seat, ill be pissed. If it gets more CLS like, they will bomb. Needs to have some room. The concept with the sweeping roof line will most likely not come to fruition, unless its the size of an S. My trunk is a freaking huge cavern, how about some rear leg room for us tall folks.

I remember that chop, from way back....what the hell will happen to the CLS when the new Eplatform comes? Like I said before it is cost efficient to change the CLS soon after the E, but how the hell will they pull it off?...the CLS is crazy looking from the future....but those new E chops are sick...they give us too many options damn it.

AMEN!

IMHO
I read a story about the new (2008) "C" class, it said that car had
more rear leg room than the current "E" car. I think we will see
a overall increase in room with the new "E". That is what they did
in the redesigned "S" & "C" cars.

Mid range sedan's marketers are in a bit of a pickle . They have traditionally appealed to buyers in their 40s and older . Many of them are now preferring sedan based crossovers for their slightly higher driving postion, similar gas mileage and refinment and ability to haul the occasional/ theoretical IKEA big box purchase home. So it is reasonable to expect cars like the E class and 5 series to keep getting bigger inside and because American buyers generally don't like their more practical wagon versions ( which sell well in Europe ) .
We supersized Americans like a lot of " air " around us in our vehicles, as 10 hour driving trips are common.

This past November I visited Paris and was told by a long-time MB executive (also occupies an office in Stutgart, I believe) that MB well "most probably" release the next generation E class sometime in '09 as a 2010 model.

It is noteworthy to mention that there is a serious debate within MB as to the E-class' trade mark oval headlights... some want to build on that even further and maintain still that distinction, while others believe it is time to depart from the round theme and adopt "sharp edges"... the Auto Bild impressions are a good example.

Personally, I would like to see the "ovals" remain and taken to yet a new level.
