Unhappy Issue regarding MB E class quality

I have new E 320 almost one week and my mileage at 227 miles. At first i dont want to drive it to freeway, but i have to because my other car was used by my brother. I drove it to freeway, and in the onboard computer, it says i drove about 3h 39m after start. Remember, i didn't drive it at constant speed. I always varying my speed. But after driving about 2 1/2 hours, suddenly there were messages in the computer saying that SOS and SRS are defective:
"SOS defective, please visit workshop" and "Restraint system defective, please visit workshop." Those two problem occured when I drove at freeway. Another problem is parking aid mirror didnt want to go down if I put my gear in R position. I realize it when i want to park my car in garage, but there is no warning in my computer other than those two problem that i mentioned before.

My question are:

1. Any one of you have experience with these problems before?

2.Did you guys follow your break-in period?? If yes, what speed is normal ?? under 80 mph is normal??

3. Is my problems cause because i drive it to freeway??

Thanks in advance, I will bring my car tomorrow to my dealer, since today is sunday.

no problems here...

i've driven it multiple times on the freeway...have about 660km on the odo.

i do about 140km/h on the highway, which is around 2000-2300rpm? so i don't think there is much problem there.

and another thing is...the E500 is rev happy. i never had this probelm on the 430, but the 500 can rev to 4000+ without much effort..i always have to take back on my foot to keep the rpms low. and again, no problems with my car.

The break-in period and how to best do it should be covered in the owner's manual. Try that. Based on other posts, I think the SOS and other error is a software problem that can be easily fixed with an upgrade from the dealer.

hey rayscar, thanks for the response, but i already read the manual. In the manual, it doesnt state anything about the speed. It says "just drive it under moderate speed".

To use the mirror function, you have to set it, it says in your manual how to do that. And for the "breaking in" period, I read somewhere: "Do not run the engine in excess of two thirds of its RPM range and stay under two thirds of the top speed for the first 1,000 miles or 1,500km" So if your car has a redline at 6000, don't go over 4000 and if it has a top speed of 250km/h (155mph), don't go over about 160km/h (about 105mph?)

I didn't know the manual didn't recommend a speed yipikaye. I would error on the slow side and not go any faster than necessary while varying your speed. Also agree with bmms8 and would not do hard accelerations.

I got my E 500 back from the dealer last week with nothing fixed. The Tele Aid receiving/sendiing unit needs to be replaced. They have the part on back order, and are waiting to get the $1700 part in.

The slight rattle, sounding as if the engine valves were ticking, which was at first deemed to be abnormal, is now responded by the service advisor as, "All the E 500's make that sound". When I asked for him to take me for a ride in another E 500 to listen for the sound in another car, he states that he doesn't have any other E 500's to drive. I too experienced the harsh sound of the windshield wipers.

It's very dissapointing buying such an expensive car, and having to take it to the dealer with just a little over a hundred miles on it and get the BS run around.

It's frustrating, but I'll be happy when these issues get resolved, and hopefully no other problems arise!

When my E class was new, Tele Aid was reporting the wrong direction on the test - dealer had to reprogram it. I.e, if the car were stolen or carjacked , it would be reported as heading north on Hiway 101 when it was actually going south !
Ticking sound on my E320 was diagnosed as not one but TWO broken up catalytic convertor cores
