Actually, that guide shows HID-D2S bulb for the low beam, which is an hid xenon.

I believe h7 is a halogen bulb for "flash" function only.

This is a first. I had my Xenon headlight assembly replaced, as result of an accident, and the bulb burnt out after about 30 min of use !

Anyone else ever experience this ?

Update : the bulb isn't burn't out, as the light is now intermittent. It's back at the shop today and hopefully they'll find the culprit (you just know the light is going to work while they have it) Maybe a loose connection or potentially defective ballast.

Hopefully another MB soon..
...I used a 3700uf(a bmw forum specified this) cap on my 03 c240... I have to turn on the headlights 5 seconds before I start the car, to keep them from not flickering. Anyone have this problem? Are you able to turn on your lights on just as if you had the original halogens??

Thanks!

capacitor wiring

Thanks for the great informations -- one thing I'm not 100% clear -- you mentioned the capacitor should be installed one direction -- in the diagram it shows the capacitor but it didn't show which way the arrow or the flow is going -- positive to negative or vice versa. Maybe I just totally missed it, but would you mind letting me know?
thanks

The kit looks decent... any issues with installation, bulb fitment or flickering?

Looking forward to your photos. And if you don't mind, can you tell what items I will need to retrofit my 2006 W211 headlights to HID?

Good to know, what brand of HIDs come with these clips?

I believe that D2's are only used for factory HID lighting. I added HID's to my 07 E350 using H7 bulbs.

Unhappy advise please

healthservices,

Thanx to your detailed DIY convertion to HID (headlamps & fog), but the only dilemma I can't figure out is how to remove my 07' W211 E350 headlight bulb connected to the head light holder (where the bulb plugs into) while still attached to headlamp unit. I tried turning counterclockwise while facing the rear of the headlamp, but it won't give. While still attached to the headlamp assembly (rear), do we first pull the head light holder (plugs into bulb) out of the connector (metal portion connected between head light holder and bulb) or turn the holder, connector with bulb attach simultaneously counterclockwise?

With everything attached - plastic wiring harness with wires + metal clip + bulb in headlamp, you twist simultaneously. It all comes off in one piece - then you pull the bulb and pop off metal clip.

I'm trying to replace my front marker lamps on my 2006 E350 but because of the pulse lighting it's not working. Is there any way to get them to work with having to change the settings using the STAR system?

Any difference?

Is there any real difference in ads on eBay that claim to be for w211 and ones that a little bit cheaper? Sample #1 or Sample #2

HID low beam conversion question

I must have two left hands but on my E211 2004 I get the rubber boot off no problem and removed the stock low beam bulb out no problem... but I cannot locate the two pronged plug after the bulb to plug my red ballest plug into? Any suggestions from those who have done it why I can't find the plug?

For people with the DDM hid kit - did you get the additional HID harness, or did everything work fine with just plugging into the existing headlight harness?

Need some additional help on the HID Replacement

So, I read, with great interest, the upgrade to HID, but my 2004 E320 with Sport Package already has the HID and the cornering lights. I got the "Low Beam" out message on the Dashboard command center - and went through all the steps as outlined to replace the D2S bulb (Original on the passenger side was a Philips and I replaced with GE - bought two at the local shop, just in case.)

I managed to get my fat hands into the light compartment from the top, and removed the ballast, the bulb (with the small clips - Thanks for that hint!!) and then replaced the clips and the ballast. Then I replaced the dust cap - all looked normal, I used gloves so that I never touched the bulb and was very careful to make sure all the alignments and such were clean...

So, then I turned the car on and got the error message, no light and the same "Low Beam" out message...So, I did the same thing all over again, with the 2nd bulb - and still no joy!

Do I need to reset something? Could the Ballast be bad? Did I screw something else up???

Any assistance would be most appreciated! Thanks.

JZ

If you got no light and replaced the bulb and it's still dark, check the fuse if fuse is good then ballast is shot.

Cannot find the fuse that might be controlling any lamp, let alone the headlamps...

dannieboiz, thanks for the hint. I looked at the fuse boxes, and the chart, and cannot find any fuse or relay that relates to the lamps, let alone the headlamp. I am scratching my head now! Did I miss something? I have checked the fuses in the passenger compartment (drivers side) and the trunk - no joy there either.

Wow, am I that lame? I see nothing for any lamp at all...Help!?

Thanks - and if it's in the hood area, then I am completely lame! JZ

i have not look specifically for the headlights fuse but you can easily test for power using a tester (you can get a wand with a light bulb) you touch the neg and pos, if the light light up then your fuse is good. Are you having problems with both side or just one side?

Found the fuse...Looks fine - took it out, replaced...

I found the fuse - it is in the SAM Box in the hood on the driver's side - took some research here on the forum, but found a diagram...The fuse is for both headlights...

The problem is just the right side - I had the entire driver-side light cluster, lamp replaced about two years ago - had an accident with a raccoon and it shattered that light altogether...

So...I am guessing it's the ballast...but now, I have no idea how to find a replacement ballast...And for the right side...I want to get this working, but it's been a time-consuming process, and now I wonder if I should have just brought it in to the shop....

Anything else you might suggest? Thanks again. JZ

Can an HID Xenon Starter Ignitor be bad? If so, how can I test?

So I looked to see if the Starter (Hella 5DD008319-50 Starter Igniter) might be bad...Is there a way to test that without potentially shorting/killing the other headlamp?

If this part is bad, I can find them online, but I wonder if the original is bad?

Any suggestions on that? Or anything else that anyone can come up with...I am getting to the point where I just bring it to my dealer and have them fix it...

Not sure...Thanks...
