Current COMAND SW
this is a dumb question, but is there any way order a service cd with the old software releases?
the reason for this would obviusly to get access to the engineering menu we were locked out from on the newer releases

You should add "does it install on a device that has been updated?". I don't know about Comand SW update CDs but normally an updated device would not allow "going backwards".
good point Diesel Benz... its definately worth a shot though... any one have any ideas on how to track one down?

The ability to display ETA below the map while navigating was added for Model Year 2007. The software needs to be upgraded by your dealer to enable this on previous units. Not certain if there are additional advantages (with or without navigation) to upgrading as I have not had hands on yet it's been a while since I last visited a dealer.
W211 (E) and C219 (CLS):
USA COMAND head unit software update - Disc # W211 589 14 22 00 (SW: 22.100, 46/06) was released 1/18/07
EU update: Disc #W211 589 13 22 00 (SW: 21.090, 30/06) released 1/18/07

My SA/lead tech said cost free - considered update under warranty. Although not specific to my VIN the update can and will be installed without worry of malfunction. BTW, service disc was located immediately via part # posted. I suggest checking with “all” your local dealers for their feedback as to cost, availability, and successful application even if not specific to your VIN.
Changes:
- Navigation voice can be muted with MUTE button
- ETA (distance & time) displayed below
- Telephone signal strength in status line during active route guidance
- System reliability & reset fixes (no details given)

Update on the update, straight from the horse’s mouth if you will. It is applicable to all MBUSA 211 & 219 models with COMAND, all model years.
Benefits:
- Navigation voice can be muted with MUTE button
- ETA (distance & time) displayed below
- Telephone signal strength in status line during active route guidance
- System reliability & reset fixes (no details given)

But what would one gain from the engineering menu if it was a US Comand? No video in motion (if that is an advantage)?
So what do I ask my MB service adviser for? Is there a StarDIag # or bulletin # corresponding to this?
Im afraid when I ask then, they will say "what update" but if we have the # then can look it up. Is this update for US spec cars?

In your case if you haven’t already taken advantage of DTB P-B-82.60/382a MAY06 mention it and request that you want the current COMAND head unit software installed via MBUSA Service Disc # W211 589 14 22 00 rather than the older version referenced in the DTB.

- got the upgrade disk from MBUSA. The upgrade went fine even though the upgrade was not intended for my VIN. The dealer did this as ‘internal’. If they charged MB I don’t know but I didn’t pay anything. After the upgrade I now have the ETA stat displayed at the bottom of the display. There is also another option I haven’t seen before – or I just haven’t paid attention. It is called ‘Auto Map Toggle’ and I am not sure what it does. If anyone know what this function does please let me know.
And thanks to konigstiger for letting us know about this update otherwise I wouldn’t know about it….my dealer didn’t know!

video in motion is not that important to me to be honest with u guys... but currently the reigon is set to 2 (europe) by default... so now i cant play any of my US dvd's at all (with exceptions to ones i've had a friend of mine custom burn for test purposes)

You're tempting me to say, "No!" But the truthful answer is, 'I don't know for sure as I'm totally against this being activated.
I have it on good authority that it will indeed disable it, but could everyone please install this upgrade and let me know for certain?
Please

My understanding is that the update disables video in motion even if it was previously activated.
KosherBenz, I believe MB assumes you should have a rear view monitor (or two, depending on the car) for the kids, no driver distraction then.
I have a 2003 late build E320 that came with the replacement NAV (i.e. US model car with Euro head unit). If I order the european software:
A) will it work with my car?
B) will it still disable the video in motion if I use the 3,5,7 trick to activate the Euro features?

B) most likely it will

Just call the dealer and give them the part#. The cost for the disk is $9.95 and it takes about 2 days to get it.
Search here to get the button combination for putting COMAND into update mode. Once in update mode you put the disk into the slot and the update will complete.

I may be wrong about this, but it seems to me that if the car is under warranty, you're better off letting the dealer do this so that is part of the vehicle's service record and if there's a problem later on ,with the Command, you're covered. (BTW @ $14.95 at my dealer)

Please remember my remarks are Europe specific but will probably apply for all models installing this upgrade.
The question has been asked about nullifying the illegal video in motion and as far as I'm aware, it will indeed delete the availability of the unauthorised setting.
The point I would like to raise though is the inputting of new data into the COMAND navigation system. It has always been possible for the front seat passenger to input new locations whilst the vehicle is in motion. On European\UK vehicles, this option has now been blocked by this upgrade. A new location can only be added when the vehicle is stationary. Please note I am not voicing an opinion on the rights, or wrongs of this modification. I am simply the messenger.
