If this option can no longer be accessed then a quick trip to the dealership and it can be reinstated by the STAR diagnostic equipment.

Just did my update today--pretty painless, although the "erasing flash memory" message is a bit disturbing.
Can now see the phone bars with the map, which was my major desire. Don't use nav much but like to watch the map.

I assume this is a W211 car, on the new ones, you can allow navi entry with a DAS setting. I assume this is not allowed in the US by default and then perhaps not all dealers want to change it but that is a different thing and you know this better than myself. I doubt any SW upgrade would change this setting, not at least from "not allowed" to "allowed".

Thanks for the update

Hey guys, if your dealer gives you a song and dance for instance the software does not directly apply to your head unit and will cause malfunctions (of course we already know better) or by chance they hit you with MBUSA has not released a bulletin requiring this update for your vehicle your counter should be: “My specific complaint is that I want, pick and choose your choice(s), the following feature(s) displayed as is standard on MY08 for which a Service Disk was released JAN07.” Reason being MBUSA will not refuse a warranty repair for a specific complaint addressed by an already released service disc.

Service Disc # W211 589 14 22 00 released 1/18/07; Navigation voice can be muted with MUTE button, ETA display, and/or telephone signal strength status.

so I have to put it on my to do list for tuesday...lol
i just tried to get this done at my local dealer silver star motors in queens ny. the sa says this is not a warranty issue pertainning to my car and vin. he says it would show up on his computers if it was... bottom line..it was not done...i got a feeling this guy does not know much about these things...my car is still there for an unrelated issue...so if someone can give me something to tell the guy to convince him that this is indeed a free service..im stuck

MBUSA upgrade has been installed and is the best thing since sliced bread, well until the next upgrade is released. All works fine as advertised. I now have the choice to have either GPS or ETA displayed below the map, can mute the navigation babe, enter locales in motion, etc. Looks as though nothing has been eliminated from the previous version and to circumvent the inevitable, I could not have less interest in secret codes. BTW, disc was readily available and SA, lead tech, and shop foreman were cooperative, you take it from there.
