Ok, that's a good point, because my current disc is a 2005.3, and when I tried updating to 2006.1, a few months ago, it wouldn't work.
All I got was a plain gray, blank screen, no map whatso ever. Even though I didn't get any errors when I installed it (it updated something during the install). Fortunately I was able to go back to the old disc w/no problems.(it also did some sort of update)
When I get around to it, I'll try the 2006.1 again and see if the service update solved the problem.

I emailed my SA about the problem some of us are having about inputting destinations while in motion. He said it shouldn't be a problem to have that reactivated. I just need to stop in one day this week. Maybe tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

Ok, for anybody interested, I have the W 211 589 14 22 00 (SW 46/06) disc available for download.
I have an 04 E320 with factory COMMAND / NAV with the DVD drive in the trunk. I have the 2007.1 DVD map disc installed in the trunk, and I have installed the update disc listed above with no problems at all. I now have MP3 playback with the Single Disc CD player (I have a factory installed CD changer, but it will not recognize the disc). Also, the song title is now listed in the MFD and on the COMMAND. I have not had a chance to see if this has updated the ETA features of the Nav yet, as I have not had the car out of the garage.
Anyway, for those of you that are interested, I have the above mentioned disc available for download. Just burn the files to a CD, and install.
BTW: This is not a sale listing, no charge, if you want it, PM me, I will email it to you or I can set up a page so you can download it. It's about 11MB, so hotmail and gmail will accept it as an attachment.

you know what would be a cool update...if they can find a way to do voice input for the navigation...they have that on the acura...should be NO reason why 211 cant do it
i guess you would have to have the voice command module also...but cant see why it cant be done otherwise

Yes, I agree about the voice command with navigation. Even if I had to spell out each letter in the destination, it would be far more convenient. Also, I do have the Voice Command on mine, and while I like it as a novelty item, I was disappointed to find that it does not work with the MP3 discs. Next Track, Start Over, ect... do not work with the MP3 discs, but I can still switch from MP3 to CD Changer with it, so I don't feel that the update has anything to do with it. It works as it always has, albeit somewhat limited for the several hundred dollar price tag. But it impresses the sh*t out of coworkers when it's my turn to drive for lunch.

Ahh, but can you switch from the CD Changer back to the single slot when its got an MP3 CD in it using the VCA? Not on my '07. It says: "No CD" because it doesn't recognize the MP3 files as a CD.

Yep, mine does the exact same thing. I did put some cd's in the changer today, and I can verify that the song titles do come up on the MFD and the COMMAND, provided the cd was burned with the titles.

Just a quick question while we're talking about song titles displaying. I still need to get this update for the car, but does COMAND display song titles while your using the radio? It's frustrating to hear a really good song and then have the DJ not tell you what it's called.
It would quite amazing (and annoying) if it didn't. I've seen it on other 2004cars (and some older), so I would be stunned if this one can't.

Most broadcasters don't use RDS for much more than an advertising tag line for the station, (WXYZ 102.7... More Music... More Often" )but some actually transmit their "Programming Type" (News, Oldies, Talk, etc.), and Song info. In the NY Metro area, its not used properly if at all. In other areas of the country I've been to the local stations do use it properly... but its still a technology that is vastly underused in the USA.

Euro COMANDs show RDS text.
If you can set your COMAND to w211 ECE via the 5,3-7 trick, you'll be able to turn on RDS under the [AUDIO], [RADIO], [SETTINGS] options.
In the DC Metro area several stations display song/artist info. Others just display the station tag line, like Barry mentioned.

Thanks so much for sharing. I did the software update per your instructions yesterday from the files you provided and all is well. The ETA on the nav is there along with the signal strength for the phone.
I haven't tried MP3's yet in the single CD, but I'm sure that will work well.

My dealer told me that Harman/Becker is developing a new software version for the W211 COMAND which is likely to include 3D view for the NAV and MAP screen (like in the new C and S) but they couldn't tell me when it would be available. They told me that it's a software update for the headunit and it has nothing to do with the MAP DVD in the trunk. Does anybody know when this new software will be out? I guess it will probably be included in the last (2009) W211.
Even with the update, the Nav looks so dull with 2D view.

The map colors are pathetic and drab. Changing the map colors to standard nav map colors would make a world of difference to the viewer as to how modern & up to date the system appears to be. Land is never gray colored. On NAV screens the proper color for land is tan. All the map display colors are bad bad bad.

What about for Audio 50 Update?
So, I have a 2003 E-500 with just the standard am/fm/cd (6 disc changer)/telephone (with new bluetooth puck installed). I want to make sure my software/firmware is the most up to date. Will the latest COMMAND software do it? I only have AUDIO 50 I thought?
Sorry for the confusion... Still a newbie to some of this... Though, I did buy and install the new bluetooth puck myself and it works well. However sometimes the radio will not power on immediately. When it does, my bass/treble settings were erased and i have to redo them.
Anyhow, don't want to post 3 questions in one post... I'm just wondering how to make sure I have the latest software/firmware to guarantee compatibility.
BTW - iPhone works well with Bluetooth Puck!

Did the dealer solve your "entry while driving" issue
For those of you who did experience the issue of not being able to enter the destination while driving after you installed the new software, did you get it resolved? How? Dealer trip? Secret Command menu? ??????
My MY04 e320 updated with no issues and I can enter while driving after the update. My friend has a MY04 e500 and he CANNOT enter destinations while driving after the update. He's about to wring my neck as it works for me and not for him (I gave him the software).
Did anyone get their issue resolved and if so, how?
