Speakers and Extended Warranty

Are speakers included in the extended warranty??? I remember being told that nither the CD changer nor stereo are included.

My speakers have gone silent for no apparent reason (with some static) be it on CD, Radio or what have you.

My extended warranty is with MB. I am fairly certain that the music system is NOT covered, it covers just about everthing else.

Flash is right. The MB extended doesn't cover the music, NAv, speakers or the other COMAND functions. This is the MAJOR omission in the warranty.

What is your model year?
Have any modifications been done to the audio system?
Is the problem intermittent?
How long have you been out of initial warranty (48/50000)?
MBUSA extended warranty?
Did you purchase new, MBUSA certified pre-owned?

This is one reason I opted for an aftermarket warranty...My warranty covers the radio/stereo system and you can get an option for the Nav system for a few $100 more on a 4 year/100K warranty

Whitewagon,

Curious about a few things... Who'd you get your warranty from? Cost? Have you been satisfied with it so far? Are you into the aftermarket warranty yet, or still under your factory?

I'm struggling to find a solid aftermarket warranty. Cost is less of an issue than coverage and stability. I read HORRIBLE things about almost every company I research, but you know how the internet collects negative reviews (even for good companies sometimes)...

Any feedback appreciated,

Skeeter

Konigstiger,

Well, for some reason all speakers went down. Now only the passenger side speakers work, but only at low volume. Raise the volume high and you'll hear static than it cuts off until you switch off engine for a long while. However, driver's side speakers havent worked since the first shutdown incident. This applies to all -- CD, Radio etc.

Mine is an '04 E.

Bought car new in '04

No work has been done on the system.

Am located in Canada, however we seem to have similar warranty structure.

Shall I take it to the dealer (probably warranty won't cover) or to just a car audio specialist or something?

Can anyone gauge the problem I have?

I doubt all the speakers were corrupted all at once.

The Audio Gateway (AGW) control module may be shutting down due to overheating as a result the audio system is shut down. Mention MBUSA DTB P-B-82.60/30 SEPT04 to the dealer. If it is found to be the AGW request a goodwill repair because your current AGW is inadequately ventilated due to a design flaw and it has been replaced with a modified part because of this.

May I ask what that number stands for? Am in Canada btw. Is it a parts number or some kind of recall number?

Also, my service advisor said that by connecting a computer (diognostics) it should probably point out the problem. Is that true?

I have an appointment on the 23rd... and everything you mentioned I'll be passing on.

Somehow, though, I think my habit of raising the volume to the max almost all the time could have suffocated the amplifier or something. But that's just a layman's guess.

Bulletin # which should be readily accessible through Star Diagnosis (SDS), even in Canada

Yes, this is SDS

Actually you may be correct. And this is specifically noted in the DTB whereas overheating may be caused by playing music at MAX volume for an extended period of time.

Forward your email by private mail and will, in turn, forward a copy of the DTB so you can have it on hand for the SA. If you would like a copy of your datacard https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/197184-free-vehicle-datacard.html also include your VIN.

If this were to be the case... it wouldn't require the replacement of the whole command unit, right?

I've sent you a pm... thank you so much!

... and just to add, the shutdown did happen while the volume was at the max.

... well, you were right afterall, it turned out to be the Audio Gateway that required replacement.

Everything was done at no cost to me. Infact, the speakers are even more crispier and clearer than they were

Thanks Konigstiger for your help here and via e-mail. You have been more than I could wish for... can't thank you enough

I am considering the MB extended warranty, and it clearly DOES cover all of these things.

From the MBUSA website:

"Audio and Navigation Systems: Covers in-dash audio and/or navigation head unit, amplifiers, speakers, factory or dealer-installed Mercedes-Benz CD player and/or changer, navigation CD/DVD-ROM drive, satellite radio components, fiber-optic network components, and antenna systems."

Earlier MBUSA Extended Warranty booklets specifically excluded entertainment & Comand items. Mine was a 2004, and those and other items were excluded.

There are other terms and conditions in the MBUSA extended warranty that vary from State to State depending in which State, the Warranty was issued to.

Not sure of the switch date, but you are correct...Starmark and early Certified Warranties did NOT cover audio, but now Certified DOES cover audio.

I bought the extended warranty for my 2003 E320 sometime in 2003 or early 2004. It specifically excludes the audio and nav system. Since they are covered now according to the MBUSA website, I assume that is the reason that the new extended warranty price has almost doubled from the 2003 price.
