? DIY Breakes, E320 Wagon 2004

I am about to change my rotors, pads and sensors (the dealer wants $1400, and all the parts are less then $450). I took off the wheels and it looks simple enough, much like my BMW, I have done many succesful breake jobs on many diferent cars. However, this is my first MBZ and when I got the pads and rotors they came with this warning; "Important: SBC brake system MUST be deactivated using SBD 102 or Mercedes Star Diagnosis tool. When activated, the SBC brake system builds up high pressure in the brake system. The automatic extension of the caliper pistons may result in serious bodily injury. Brake pressure may cause brake fluid to escape at high pressure, with possible resulting damage or injury. Maintenance or repair work must never be performed on an active SBC brake sustem. The SBC brake system pushes out the brake master cylinder when: The vehicle is opened by remote control. The driver, front passenger or rear door is opened. The trunk is opened. The key is turned to position "1" in the ignition. The brake pedal is operated. The parking brake is released. The system performs a self test (pre-drive check)." I do not have a SBD 102 or the MBZ Star Diagnostics tool. I am wondering if this is a electronic system can I just disconnect the battery to deactivate the SBC system?

Would not be enough to disconnect "the battery", the car would have two of those.

Search for the forums and you should find detailed guidance on different options to deactivate the SBC system without the SDS computer.

Should be easy as you have already completed the most important step, figuring out that one would have to be careful with the SBC setup.

It is super easy, just disconnect the SBC system-it is behind the passenger headlight. Do a search and you will find detailed pics on the system and its plug. Once you unplug it leave your keys in the house and go to town, it will be the easiest brake job you've done.

Note after the brake job you may still have the + in the service warning. It will clear when you change the oil and do a confirm. This will clear the +

Thumbs up

he brake job was easy. However you do need to have an 18mm socket, not standard in a set, and a 13mm. You also need a T30 and T40 wrench. The rear disks stick to the hub so some persuasion is needed. The red screen warning did not clear until I started the car, then everything cleared up. A big thanks to all for the information.
