Wow... $450 for Service "B"

I see Service "B" in 3K miles. Since I will be moving soon, I check with my local MB Dealership how much this is. The answer was $450. Wow... I thought Service "B" was pretty minor service.

In the FSS, it's showing 12 & 13 and bunch of others in additional work. Should I do this by myself? What's your thought? Your expert opinion would be really appreciated.

You probably can do service B. Oil change + many inspections. There might be one you can't but should be able to do most. Check the FSS for what is needed then decide. Oil changes are relatively easy.

took my car in for a hard tranny shift. The service rep (total *****) said that since I probably had not had a "B" service that was the problem. They dont even check the tranny fluid on a "B" service. Want to know what they wanted for this awesome service? $699.95 NOT INCLUDING PARTS LOL!!!!!!! Holy ****.

Then she proceded to say that MB may not honor my warantee if I did not get the regular service. I get oil changes and tire rotations as needed. Forget the rest. I hate dealers.

That is true, although I would change that "may" to "will"

That is not correct. The warantee does not state that I have to be serviced by a mercedes delership. It DOES void if I have been negligent.

$450 is pretty reasonable. Consider that its called for at 26000 miles and that works out to .02 per mile, of course you have to add the cost of the A service you had done at 13000 miles. Even with that the cost per mile is minimal. Its unlikely you could maintain most other similar vehicles for that cost.

service "A" was 299 or 399 at this dealer. When I declined they politely informed me that I had nails in 2 of my tires. This of course was unknown to me. They said they could give me a great deal on tires if I replaced all four. $277/tire plus mounting/balance/labor and taxes. WTFBBQ?!?!!!

I did not say the service had to be performed by the dealership, but that the service had to be done. Documentation is most probably required too.

That is very true, however in the event of a warranty dispute they will not accept a DIY inspection but only one from an actual business that shows documentation that all items that are called for in the MB inspection were actually done. I feel that that is a good thing as most DIY people that change their own oil claim that they did the inspection when in fact they do not even know what they are looking at.

Heejin, how many miles do you have on your e-class? Depending on the mileage the price may differ depending on what service the car needs. It could need some dust or cabin filters, and or brake fluid replacement. If you have even a little bit of mechanical "know how", I'm sure you can handle an oil change on your own and reset the service light. But having the service show up in the cars work history by getting it done at the dealer helps out if you do ever have any problems or warranty disputes in the future. If you went to your doctor and he told you that you needed a heart transplant, would you shop around for the cheapest heart? Would you get the best money could afford?

The choice is yours....

You will die richer if you ignore about ALL
the “company recommended” services
.

The same with “extended warranties.”

I have NEVER gotten ANY of those high profit
“recommended” services. And, at 77, have
never had a problem from my “terrible
neglect.”

When out of warranty, beware of the FREE
INSPECTIONS that dealers push. I guarantee
they will find “something” that “badly needs
replaced.”
