License Plate Bulbs

Hey All,
Wondering if someone could help me here. Searched, but couldnt find the answer i was looking for. I bought some Polarg M-28 Bulbs to replace the yellowish stock license plate bulbs, and it worked for a day or two, but on one side the plastic cover melted.

So i searched here, and found out that the stock bulbs were 5w vs the 10w polarg bulbs. Ok so now the question is, what do you guys use to replace the stock bulbs? i know you guys dont drive around with yellowish bulbs lighting up the plates.

Im guessing the only solution is to use LED's correct? since they will run at a lower wattage but still give the bright white look. I know some LED's wont spread light as well as others, so which ones have you guys used/ which one works best?

Thanks for the help/info!

Me still have the yellow...sorry! I am pretty sure though that there was a recent thread on these bulbs. Hope this link works:

If not, the main site the poster was directing to is:

Go to AutoZone and they'll replace the factory bulb with a replica 5w bulb (I forget the bulb number)...

I swapped mine out in less then 5 minutes. No problems.

i was reading... if you want to replace the lights with LEDS of any kind you have to wire in an IN-LINE resistor to compensate for its low wattage... if not you will get an error code.

hope that helps

Should be simple, measure the current drawn by the led and install a parallel resistor that makes the rest to reach equal current consumption as with the original bulb. The resistor would have to be of correct size/wattage.

I've installed these http://www.hoen-usa.com/licenseplate.htm and they look great. Very simple to install too.
