Anybody filled w/ Nitrogen?

Whats the advantages here? Where can I get it? Whats the cost? This seems to be a new trend I'm interested to know if anybody has done this. Also, please mention your wheel/tire sizes and what psi your running! Thanks in advance!

Nitrogen is an inert gas so you won't have fluctuations in PSI at temperature. There is no noticeable advantage unless you track your car. You can get nitro at Costco for free. Any tire that Costco services, they automatically fill it with nitrogen. You can always spot these cars because of their green valve stem caps.

My dealer recently sent me a coupon for a nitrogen fill for $89.00. What a joke.

I saw it at a MB dealer for a smokin low price of $220 on a new car..

Other than not checking/adding air as often, there's no reason for it. Some places refill for $10 per tire, some have it for free.

If you see a stealer offering it, tell him to inhale it.

Well, I tried it and the car would not run. It just cranked and cranked.

It seems that the car will not run on nitrogen. I'll have to do more tests.

Having nitrogen in the tires of your car would mainly be for the tire pressure monitoring system unless it is a track car. A tire filled with nitrogen will not fluctuate pressure as much as one that has a higher percent of oxygen. This helps with the TPMS and keeps it from setting the light off on extremely cold mornings when the air shrinks. Unless the machine they use takes all of the oxygen out and it is 100% nitrogen in the tire, the tires pressures will still fluctuate but they will not fluctuate as much. Our service advisors tried telling me that it doesn't fluctuate at all but the machines we use does not take all the oxygen out and they still do. They just don't change as much.

MB put out a bulletin stating they "do not recommend nitrogen, and there are no proven noticable benefits for a road going vehicle, also there is not suffiecent evidence that nitrogen loses air slower that regular air inflated tires"

Also if you consider the air you breathe is over 75% nitrogen already......

Correct 75K% is pretty close to the actual N2 in the air we breath. I think adding n2 is a quick way to make your wallet lighter in the $$ category. But just my opinion of course even if MB feels the same way. But then I am NOT a GERMAN engineer,, just an AMERICAN engineer.

The machine we use sucks the air out of the tire down to 3 PSI and then refills it with 100% nitrogen but the remaining 3 PSI of air not extracted out of the tire still has oxygen in it. They are attempting to have more nitrogen in the tire for less tire pressure fluctation during temperature changes. It is way overpriced though.

Yeah, it is really important to maintain 32.5 psi in the tires when sitting in traffic on the 5 FWY going to work......

I see the use in F1 or NASCAR (go fast, turn left), but there would be no noticable gain for a street car.

I use it, in my planes though, not my cars.

It serves no useful purpose in street cars.

+1

(I track my 993 and sometimes use nitrogen but not always; rather spend the $$ on brake fluid and 100% octane.)
