Is the Aux. Battery covered under warranty?
I'm getting the red battery display along with "Visit Workshop" on the instrument cluster. After searching it appears that this means the Aux. Battery has crapped out.
Is this covered under the warranty or considered a "wear item".

It's covered, I had the aux battery to fail on my CLS. I don't get a warning, but on my B service two weeks ago on the printout it said the aux battery failed MB Diags and was replaced.

Thanks for the quick reply Konigster. Can we get these batteries from the local parts store, or should I stick with Mercedes and just order it online?

I had the red "visit workshop" battery display up for about 3 weeks now. It went away for the past 4 days. I think the battery isn't sick anymore .

Yes. I have a 2003 too. I'm about to get raped by the stealership. So many damn problems with the car. I think its time to let it go. However, every time I fix it, I keep telling myself I just dropped so much into the car, It should be fine now. But it always messes up....

Does anyone else find it odd that since the main battery on these cars is in the trunk and if you have the electronic trunk closer feature what happens if the battery has died out?

I have been checking around for the aux bat. My red bat came on. First thing I did was full load test the main bat. and it checked out good. I also ran a check on the charging system it also came out good. But still had the red light. So I checked the aux bat and found it only had 10V. The bat is low at start up and gives the red bat warrning. Then after driving it picks up a small charge. Turn the car off and restart and no red warning. This is because at start up the small added charge is enough to keep the warning off. After turning off the car for an hr the aux bat drops to 10 V. So it needs replacing. Local dealer wants $140 for it. So I have been cross referencing batteries. I found that there is a Westco AGM bat of the same voltage/amp rating that is dimensionally close to the MB bat. I think it will fit. I will look for one after christmas to see if I can pick it up local. It sells for around $69. The Westco AGM part # is 12V12B-4. You might take a look at this for fit, electrically it is correct for the application. Be sure to look at the box terminal to insure it will fit the car connectors.

I got the "red battery display along with Visit Workshop", I disconnected the main battery and charged it overnight, then took my Benz (2006 E320 CDI - 60K) to the local Walmart - they checked both my batteries - main and auxillary, and my alternater - the main battery and alternater checked out OK, the auxillary showed really low amps and voltage - replaced it with an Everstart AGM 14BS - total for the checks, battery installation and old battery disposal - $68 including tax! If this aux battery doesnt work out well, Ill let you all know.

2003 Mercedes E-200 sedan
Thanks a lot for the valuable info. I have a Mercedes E-200 model 2003 and since the last six months my auxillary battery is dead. I want to try to replace it myself with not the mercedes battery but any battery of the same specs. Can anyone kindly tell me where the Aux. battery is located and how to replace it myself before being ripped apart by the local mercedes dealership. I shall be most grateful.
