I just had the same Visit Workshop message yesterday and today. yesterday it went a way after about 20 minutes .. today it's staying on.

Everything appears to work fine and called dealer. Appointment on Wednesday .. but maybe I should just call roadside assistance to come and change it??!!

If you use the dealer for service and have no critical use for the car, I would wait until Wed. But if you have critical must have then you can call for assistance. Your decision.

If you have a voltmeter/multimeter, I would check the aux battery. If its less than 12 volts with the car off (mine was 10.6V, dropped one cell) then its likely the battery. If you are mechanically inclined, replacing it its just a piece of cake. Otherwise other people have stated that roadside will replace it at cost.

I would have no problems changing it out myself but .. it's under warranty so it's on their dime ...

Mine was under warranty but they do not cover this battery. If you have less than 12,000 miles they might. Otherwise the bill will be $150 parts + 100 labor or about $250 for this battery.

Hey guys:

Question, have you ever heard of an auxiliary battery under the passenger front seat?

I took my car today for service (2003 E320) and on top of the Service D (which is really a Service A $290) and the Spark Plugs Replacement (due at 5 years of 100,000 miles, over $400), they call me and tell me that the Auxiliary Battery failed the Test they did. When I asked him if that was the smaller battery by the engine on the Passenger Side he says, "No, is the one under the Passenger Front Seat". I was like:

I have read lots of Mercedes Forums but I have never heard of a Battery under the Front Passenger Seat. Would you guys know?

I swear, I am going to COSTO and I am going to buy one of those HUGE Vaseline Jars so that the next time I go to the dealer, I will ask them to use some before they SCREW me again. They are always finding something additional to the Scheduled Service that happens to be NOT COVERED by the warranty that you MUST do.

Let me know guys if indeed there is such a battery and if so, is there is any place to get it on the web.

Thanks!

My E500 has only 2 bat's I know of. One in trunk and one under hood under ac filter cover. This is the aux bat and I found a identical replacement at autozone for $69.00.

But $400 for plugs is pretty reasonable given you have 12 plugs at $10+ each and Labor at $110 / hr. sounds about straight up unless you DIY.

Someone may have dropped a flashlight under the seat and the workshop men found it with a flat battery. No car battery there as vettdvr says.

I think instead of "under" the front passenger seat, i think he may have meant in "front" of the passenger seat. It's the aux battery. I need one too, but haven't got around getting one at Autozone. For an 03 (just like mine), i think it's about time to change a 6 year old battery.

Quote from post 56

Note he asked the dealer if it was the aux bat by the engine on the pass side which is the AUX batt. So apparently there was a 3rd battery. But any case it is clear communication is an issue.

The pic shows a group size 12 but in the description it states it's a 14-BS and gives the dimensions.
Has anybody bought from this seller? Does the battery work?

Did you type that right? I thought 14-BS was the size, but you typed out 14-bx in two posts. I just want to make sure before i go searching tomorrow.

Straight from my notes. But I suggest you check with your battery to confirm it is correct before you buy. This battery should have the correct amperage and fit for your exact replacement.

Autozone GTX 14-BX FG AGM battery this should be the exact replacement for $69.99

Thanks. I just can't find that part online via Autozone's website. Also, when I call them, they can't find it either.

The Ebay part would be the easiest one to purchase, if I could only get some feedback on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Power...Q5fAccessories

Sears 12C-A is a conventional battery.

Sears DieHard Gold 14-BS AGM $69.99

Too bad Sears DieHard Platinum AGM is not available in group size 49 for the main battery

Is the sears a direct fit? I recall on some aftermarkets they weren't the same size and requires 'bending' the cable ends to fit ..

Its a direct fit. The reason why the other guy bend the cable is because the poles were round and on the original ones were square.

Does interstate battery an AGM battery (I mean the main battery)? or just a convention type? I'm having a hard time looking at their website. Not very informative.

Any help will be really appreciated, I am sure somebody has gone through this ordeal.

Thanks

So i had the same exact problem occur to me. The red message has been present for a couple of months.
Everything works fine.
So I take it to the dealer and he says I need a new auxillary battery and it's going to cost me $260 parts and labor.
I say, "Can I just change out the battery my self?"
He says no. It's not as simple as changing out the main battery. He said since it's tied into the brake system, the brakes need to be discharged and when doing this auxillary battery change. So no, I can not do this on my own, according to him.
Is this service agent just trying to rip me off??? Hmmm, I wonder, is there ANY truth to what he said. Doesn't sound like it according to this thread.
