I use pliers to get a good grip. It doesn't take much force at all to turn and remove.

Yep. That easy. A pliers helps if you have big and/or sensitive fingers.

Look thru the sticky on "white star flat hood badge" above.... instructions there.

The sticky's gone since he ran out of parts for making the flat white star badge replacement.

Open the hood, reach up and grab the unit from underneath. Give it a counterclockwise twist. It will loosen up, the spring will go limp, and you feed it out through the hood opening.

Trust me it's simple and you'll figure it out the minute you try it.

But it still won't be an E63. Sorry, couldn't help it.

Your car looks good.

heh... i wish :P
anyways. so its the two metal tabs right? i tried to twist it with a cloth and my fingers (was at work) but couldnt get it to budge.
will try with plyers..
so if i buy the flat hood badge.. do i just need the round part? im guessing the round badge can attach to the spring / whatever else is there? or will i need a whole new assembly?

It's probably a little stiff. Move it around clockwise and counterclockwise and try to loosen it up. Pliers will do it for certain.

The "real" enameled and metal flat white stars are all gone, and they had a unit attached that was just like the OEM upright. Same twist mechanism.

The ones from eBay probably use a flat disk and wing nut type system. Not as nice but they work.

Again, it'll all be apparent when you take off the upright and install the flat badge.

96 and 08 911 turbos
spray some white lithium grease on the twist lock and it will literally twist with no effort at all.

Looking at the pics, it appears that you have to thread the bolt thru one of the disks. Make sure the flat end of the bolt is flush on one the disks (that disk will be the top where it mounts on the car.) Then mount it on the car. Take the other disk and feed it under the hood and onto the bolt. Tighten the assembly twisting the nut (make sure the washer fits up against the bottom disk and between the nut.

Getting the Brabus logo on the disk is puzzling. But it appears that you have to use some sort of adhesive unless there's some way to hook the logo onto the flat part of the nut that will end up on the top disk. I can't see what the underneath of the logo looks like.

This looks like a Chinese knock-off from eBay and not an original Brabus(?) Unless it really came off a Brabus(?) I don't see any for sale in their German catalog.

Some of the $20 eBay ones mount completely differently. There seem to be several different mounts depending on vendor.

thats that the seller told me, authentic :S
the logo is actually a sticker, you peel off the layer and it can be stuck onto the metal piece.

ok so i understand threading the screw through the top disk (mounts on the outside of the hood) and the question is putting the other disk on the other side of the hood (underside). the disk does not fit through the whole on the hood, and the screw is not long enough to make it from the outter end of the hood to the underside of the hood. and since the disk that goes under the hood is too big and cant fit through to make contact with the screw, im unable to connect the two pieces?

=========== <-----(top of hood and the disk goes ontop)
|
| <-----(approx length of screw for sake of diagram)
|
<-----(gap between top side of hood and underside)

------------- <-----(underside of the hood)
--------------- <-----(other metal disk piece that is too big to fit through the gap
of hood to make contact with the scrwe so unable to screw
it in)

hopefully that gives you a better explanation of the scenario.
help lease!

Do it this way: assemble the unit together just as I described. But instead of doing it with the disk on top and then trying to add the bottom disk up from underneath the hood, angle the assembled unit from the top of the hood and get it through the opening (keeping the top disk on the topside of the hood, of course.)

Then you will be able to reach up from under the hood and tighten the nut.

That will work, trust me.

I guess then you "stick" the Brabus label on the top of the hood disk. Hope it looks flat and holds up in the weather.

Here's my badge.

It mounts in a similar way (although the logo is made of metal and enamel.) The logo itself becomes the top disk. You attach the bolt and nut to the bottom disk (just a plain metal disk that's slightly smaller) and when the two are assembled (leaving enough slack on the bottom disk; ie, just barely attach it with the nut) you turn the bottom disk sideways and snake it thru the top hood opening. There are two tabs in the opening that give you a bit more room to snake it thru.

Then with two hands (one holding the top of the hood and one up from underneath) you tighten the nut so that the bottom disk fits flush against the underside of the hood opening.

Every few months or so check and make sure the nut is still tight so it doesn't come apart. Or use some Loctite or something.

Pics are a little blurry but I see it, yeah that's how I did my last one. It shows that the bottom disk is too big to go in from the top. Mine was a bit smaller and it was easy.

The only thing I can say is that you should keep trying to feed it from under the hood; i.e., take it apart and try again the way you tried in the first place. There is some wiggle room underneath. You can try to see if you can get the bottom disk up into the slot and closer to the top of the hood so it can attach to the bolt.

Otherwise, just go out a buy a smaller diameter disk to use for the bottom disk and feed it from the top again. Any hardware store will have them. Big flat washers, basically. That'll solve it.

Who is the seller? Have you asked them?

the seller is from this thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/exterior-...od-emblem.html

i asked him how to do it he didnt know and said he would get back to me, but he hasnt. :S

i just dont see a way to physically fit that through the hole!
both disks appear to be the exact same size.
i cant get it through the slot on either the top or the bottom side of the hood which is the problem. i can try a hardware store... but with that being said this brabus piece sounds very "replicated" and not authentic at all :S

In his post he said it's never been installed. Maybe he couldn't get it working either.....

Go to the hardware store and make it work yourself. Or just write the whole thing off.

Good luck.

i went to home depot today and a local auto car parts store Lordco and showed them both the metal piece. they had no idea what it was and said they didnt carry it.

at home depot the guy asked me where its from and i said for my car and he immediately said they dont own car parts... :S so i told him it was a universal tool and he didnt recognize it.

is there a name for this piece of metal disk?
also, can you recommend me a place to get a decent quality flat hood badge incase i do decide to write this one off? where did you get yours 220S?
thanks!

You need a large flat washer. They're called fender washers. Any hardware store will have them. Get one that is large enough in diameter to push up against the hood opening without going thru it, but small enough to fit into it. As long as it can fit by going sideways thru the tabbed sides of opening, it will be big enough to sandwich the hood between it and the badge disk. And with a bolt opening the same size as the bolt you're going to use.

While you're at it, you can look for a longer bolt that might make things easier.

Or just get one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-Sty...ht_2436wt_1206

The best quality MB ones are the White Star Flat Badges from DFWDude. He used to have a sticky on the forum with pics, etc.. They are enamel and metal. But he had to stop making them because MB doesn't have any of the parts in inventory any more.

I have two of them. One is used and one is new. I just sold the used one to a member here. I'll sell the new one for $120 which is what it cost me. You can't get these anymore. They mount just like the OEM upright star.
