Rough Idle when coming to a stop

does it once in a while when i come to a stop at red light, the idle is very rough to the point the car is shaking. If i remove the brakes and step on it again, the idle turns normal.
As my car is out of warranty, i was wondering if you guys would know what needs to replaced so i can do the work myself.
It's a 2005 E500 4Matic.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The last time that happened to me, the air cleaner wasn't making a good seal around the MAF. I just had reseat it. Hopefully you're as fortunate.

Interesting. I am having the same issue. I thought it was plugs so I put in 16 new OEM MB plugs. Same issue. Not all the time but occasionally it will idle rough. I am open to ideas also!

I think you have a faulty MAF sensor. Seems like I've been talking about MAFs a lot lately, and with good reason. My car's power delivery didn't feel as smooth as in years past, plus a recent trip to a drag strip showed that my car was down on power from last year. I replaced my MAF 2 days ago and it appears that all my problems are gone. Car idles smooth, power delivery feels more linear and my SOTP dyno feels like the power has returned.

Change your MAF. I found one on ebay for 135.00. And this is the mack daddy Bosch one.

Good luck, gents.

Classic symptom of failed/failing crankshaft position sensor.

This failure usually does not set a check engine light

Thanks about $400 dollars worth. The car was very rough when coming to a hard stop. I checked the Air cleaner housing and the back two clamps were unseated. I was in the process of trying to locate the crankshaft positioning sensor (it is buried). This timely piece of information saved me an hour of skinned knuckles and a perfectly good part in the trash.
I REALLY appreciate the information.

In spite of arguments about the trunk jack and hub centered wheels (not), the information I have gathered here from people who actually KNOW what they are talking about is invaluable. My owner's experience has been enriched beyond my expectations due to great advice like this.
